I am reaching out on behalf of a longstanding client to identify a consultant who would be interested in taking over the role I have played with the group after my retirement which will take place in 2020.
Since 2009, I have acted as Operations Manager for a major annual fundraising event in Wakefield each October which has grown from approximately 600 people to close to 4,000 people. Beginning in 2013, a second walk was added in central Massachusetts (It is now held in Westborough) which now attracts close to 1000 people each September.
In this role, I have handled virtually all of the pre-planning including interactions with both municipalities, all rentals including tents, equipment, av, signage, trash management, and volunteer recruitment. With the Executive Director and Development Manager, I have arranged the monthly meetings of the task forces for both walks including meeting notices, agendas and minutes. I have also attended 4-5 staff meetings leading up to both event.
All of the day-of-operations have fallen under me including overseeing set-up, responsibility for adhering to each municipality’s regulations on site, fire and police details, in Wakefield a 6 bus shuttle system and in Westborough a complex parking system. Overall volunteer management as well as stage program coordination has also been part of the contract.
For both events, I subcontracted with additional staff to manage specific areas of the site as well as crew to do sign installation, water stop set up and cleanup and other needed operational tasks.
The client and I are working to put together a transition plan that will insure continuity in walk management. Our ideal is to interview a number of people who express interest this summer and choose one, or at most two people, who would attend both walks this year to make sure they understand the projects and the support the group has had in the past.
A contract will be offered in late November of 2019 and the consultant will begin work in February of 2020. While both of these walks are pretty intense, it is possible to continue working with other clients while under contract to this group. I will also be retained as a consultant through the 2020 walks so that information and guidance will always be available to the new person.
This group has been wonderful to work with and I feel a real investment in making sure that what has been built over a decade of working together is preserved and continues to grow.
Once I have received an indication of interest, I will gladly share the specific items included in the master contract.
I request that anyone who is interested send me a brief cover letter as well as your current resume. I will speak with those who respond and, in consultation with my client, schedule a meeting with her and her staff for later this summer.
Please feel free to email me with any preliminary questions and we will converse by email or phone as necessary.
I ask that all responses be in my office by August 9, 2019.
