This position provides leadership for the strategic direction and work of the Research staff who support the fundraising programs and activities of the College. This team is responsible for identifying and profiling high-capacity prospects to achieve the College’s fundraising priorities and for advising and supporting gift officers in the strategic management of donor relationships. Incorporating the College’s prospect research, the Director develops tailored gift tables and fundraising analysis and bench-marking based on College fundraising priorities and goals.
Primary Position Responsibilities
Oversee prospect development including prospect research and identification, pipeline moves management, and key performance metrics.
Establish and maintain best practice methodologies for research techniques, reporting templates, and all process documentation.Develop in-depth profiles, lists, reports, and screenings to help gift officers strategically achieve their goals.
Use prospect research to provide analysis, bench-marking, and forecasting of College’s ability to meet fundraising goals.
Coordinate with records staff to achieve effective systems of records management for approximately 40,000 constituents
Supervise a staff of 2.
Administer operating budget of approximately $45,000.
Conduct research: Collect, confirm, analyze, interpret, and summarize complex biographical and financial data; wealth assessment; philanthropic assessment.
Create briefing materials for president, trustees, senior staff and volunteers to inform personal contacts and solicitations.
Provide leadership in area of responsibility. Strategic plans and annual goals are clear and reflect interests of all development departments. Goals are achieved on deadline.
Research is accurate, well written, and presented and provided in a timely fashion.
Research methodology is current and effective in order to identify new prospects, develop biographical and financial profiles on prospects, and assist in determining strategies for engagement and solicitation.
Research staff is well trained, understands the importance of ethical behavior in conducting research and provides work of the highest quality.

Associate Director, Research and Prospect Management
7-10 years’ experience with prospect research and analysis in fundraising including experience with relational databases.

This individual has the ability to influence the work of the development office tremendously by ensuring that we are not overlooking high-capacity prospects with the ability to give tens of millions of dollars to the College. Therefore, their skills, knowledge, and ability to motivate the team and ensure quality work are of the utmost importance. This individual must have a deep understanding of the specialty field of prospect research, including an understanding of the business world, the world of wealth, and how to calculate someone’s philanthropic capacity, which is both an art and a science. They must have the ability to assess the accuracy of many different sources of information and pull together reports that highlight important information for the president, senior staff, trustees, and others to know in devising and implementing engagement and solicitation strategies. This is crucial position essential to the success of the highest-level fundraising at the College.
