Involves developing, promoting and supporting the operational and strategic aspects of intercollegiate student athlete programs, including planning, scheduling, budget administration and travel.
Uses advanced intercollegiate athletics concepts and campus objectives to resolve highly complex issues for a large operational unit. Regularly works on highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Typically leads or supervises other staff or students.
Assists the Associate Director for Athletics & Recreation in game day administration of NCAA DIII varsity events as well as the execution of the Sports Clubs and Intramural Sports programs. This position will also provide administrative support to summer camps hosted by the department. This role works alongside varsity coaches, sports medicine, sports information, and administrative support staff to understand, plan, and execute home contest needs for varsity athletics. In addition to varsity athletics duties, this position will work directly with Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs programs to recruit, hire, train, and retain student staff and support all Sport Clubs organizations. The position will work with the Associate Director for Athletics & Recreation to determine and execute programming, staffing, and training needs.
The Athletics & Recreation Department at University of California, Santa Cruz serves a student population of approximately 18,000 students and more than 3,500 faculty and staff. Programs offered include 15 NCAA DIII sports including tennis, soccer, basketball, volleyball, track & field, cross country, swimming & diving, and golf serving about 380 student-athletes per year. The department boasts an Intramural Sports program serving more than 2,000 unique participants each year. The Sport Clubs program is comprised of 37 clubs containing 1000 active and approved participants. The Athletics & Recreation Department also offers a wide variety of outdoor recreation programming as well as a group exercise and personal training programs. Athletics & Recreation at UC Santa Cruz is an integrated unit with shared facilities and a growing support staff.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
A minimum of three (3) years-experience working in a collegiate athletic department or equivalent setting.
Advanced knowledge of program activity and best practices.
Ability to perform all job duties in a manner consistent with NCAA conference and University rules, regulations, ordinances, policies, procedures and guidelines.
Ability to develop and maintain an expertise in sports officiating best practices.
