The Athletic Academic Coordinator/Learning Specialist will provide academic counseling in conjunction with faculty academic advisors to ensure student-athletes meet NCAA and Big Sky Conference eligibility requirements and progress towards graduation. Athletic Academic Coordinator/Learning Specialist will promote academic achievement, graduation, and personal growth of each student-athlete. This position will also carry a case load of at-risk student-athletes and develop and implement individualized academic support plans.
Coordinate student-athlete progress toward receiving a degree working with the student-athlete’s academic advisor, academic department, Registrar’s Office, FAR, and the student-athlete.
Oversee academic eligibility for each student-athlete on teams as assigned, and meet regularly with and update coaches on the academic progress of team members.
Work closely with potential student-athletes (high school & transfers) to assess eligibility for competition, financial aid, and practice.
Coordinate any eligibility waivers for incoming and continuing student-athletes on assigned teams. Manage, track, and predict APR for assigned teams.
Develop, coordinate and implement individualized academic support plans for most at risk student populations, including the assessment and evaluation of individual students to determine learning needs and additional support.
Carry a caseload of student-athletes and conduct one-on-one academic meetings, teaching learning strategies, and addressing academic needs.
Assist student-athletes in developing effective study skills and habits. Discuss learning strategies, academic strengths and weaknesses. Reinforce progress towards goals and objectives.
Communicate needs of caseload to assigned academic coordinator, staff, and coaches as necessary.
Other duties as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Academic Services, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Administration/Sr. Women's Administrator, and/or the Director of Athletics.
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, or a combination of education and/or experience from which comparable skills are acquired.
Experience in athletics administration or higher education.
Experience and competence in advising and/or student success in a higher-ed setting
Experience working with at-risk student-athletes in an academic setting
Experience working with and engaging diverse students
