Under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director of Strength and Conditioning, the Strength and Conditioning Coach for Men’s and Women’s Basketball will support and enhance the mission of the San Diego State University Athletic Department. Emphasis for all student-athletes in the Aztec Athletic Weight Training Facility will be on improving strength, endurance, flexibility, and speed. This is accomplished by including traditional and nontraditional concepts of conditioning and strength training under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director of Strength and Conditioning. Student-athletes will learn the importance of proper diet and nutrition to support the goals for endurance, speed, strength, fitness, and overall conditioning.
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of strength and conditioning experience, including experience with men’s or women’s basketball at the collegiate and/or professional level.
Must maintain Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) certification from the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association or the Certified Strength and/or Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. A copy of the up-to-date certification is to be provided to the Assistant Athletic Director of Strength and Conditioning.
CPR/AED certification. First aid certification.
Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills
Ability to administer, demonstrate, and teach strength and conditioning techniques.
Ability to work evenings and weekends and travel to away games.
Experience training student-athletes for professional basketball opportunities to include pre-draft development and/or professional basketball competition.
Demonstrated men’s and/or women’s basketball strength and conditioning experience specific to the Division 1 level as a head or assistant strength coach.
Olympic sport experience as a head or assistant strength and conditioning coach.
Additional Salary Information: This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before 04/30/2020, with the possibility of reappointment and/or permanency. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
