The Midwest Political Science Association seeks its next Membership and Communications Director to lead successful recruitment and engagement programs through the preparation and implementation of the association’s next strategic membership and conference marketing plans. Duties include the production of a variety of programs and services supporting conference attendance and engagement, membership development, publications, and advocacy efforts.
This position will also oversee the Membership Specialist in fulfilling all membership recruitment and retention efforts and will work with volunteers to develop new programs and services to serve the membership. This position will lead the development and implementation of the association’s social media strategy and is responsible for overseeing the production of all communications vehicles including website development, newsletter production, direct mail, videos, and podcasts. The position is responsible for leading the association’s mentoring and annual awards programs.
Must have significant knowledge and experience using association management systems and related websites and intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft office products and social media platforms. Excellent writing and interpersonal communications skills are required, as is an ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
The position reports to the Executive Director with approximately half of the time developing member services and content, 40% on communication and marketing, and 10% on membership engagement. All staff members assist with the annual conference held each April in Chicago. Some travel is required with this position, which may include weekends. While the association maintains an office in Bloomington, IN, the majority of employees work remotely.

The Midwest Political Science Association (MPSA) was founded in 1939 and is dedicated to the advancement of scholarship in all areas of political science. The purposes of the MPSA are to promote the professional study and teaching of political science, to facilitate communications between those engaged in such study, and to develop standards for and encourage research in theoretical and practical political problems. As such, MPSA is a nonpartisan association which does not support political parties or candidates. College degree in related field; Five years of experience in association membership, communication or marketing; Experience in providing services via the web; Experience working with databases; IT savvy.
Knowledge of SalesForce is a plus as is a CAE.
Telecommuting is allowed.
