California State University Dominguez Hills was established in 1960 and is one of the 23 campuses that comprise The California State University System. CSU Dominguez Hills is an urban, comprehensive public university that serves a culturally rich, diverse student body of approximately 14,000 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Located on a 346-acre site in the South Bay portion of the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, CSU Dominguez Hills has a highly pluralistic student body, which includes a significant number of non-traditional, working adult students as well as approximately 2,000 students enrolled in distance learning programs statewide. Conditions of Employment: The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment. Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record. Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Position Information: This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.
Department: Athletics The Athletic department administers an intercollegiate athletic program sponsoring 4 men's teams and 6 women's teams. A member of Division II of the NCAA, CSUDH competes in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Other functions of the unit include public relations, sports information, athletic training, fund-raising, scheduling of campus athletic facilities, and recruitment and retention of student-athletes. The Department and University place a high priority on academic standards and the personal growth of the student-athlete.
Major Job Duties: Under the general supervision of the Athletics Director or designee, the Head Athletic Trainer provides for injury prevention and care of the student-athletes representing the University on all intercollegiate athletics teams. This 12 month appointment includes pre-game and pre-practice preventative treatment and rehabilitation, supervision of assistant and student-trainers, attendance at home and away intercollegiate contests as assigned by the Athletics Director or designee, practices, post-practices, and post-game therapy. The Head Athletic Trainer assists with oversight of care and maintenance of therapeutic and operational equipment used in the treatment and rehabilitation of injury; inspection and recommendations of safety precautions of all athletics facilities and equipment. The Head Athletic Trainer exercises direct and professional verbal and written communications skills with student-athletes, coaches, administrators, doctors, parents, insurance companies and others as needed.
Qualifications Knowledge of: The principles, methods, and techniques related to athletic training - the materials, supplies, and equipment utilized in the prevention and treatment of intercollegiate athletic injuries - insurance claim processing; general knowledge of the methods and problems of Athletics and Athletic Training management; and general knowledge of the principles of individual student-athlete and team behavior. Ability to: Communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and groups, both on- and of-campus, to include health care providers, doctors, and other medical personnel, parents, faculty, staff and students - Plan, organize, and schedule activities- Operate technical equipment related to athletic training- Maintain records- Adjust and perform simple maintenance of technical equipment. Skills in: Preventative treatment and rehabilitation of intercollegiate athletic-related injuries - Excellent administrative, organizational, and communication skills- utilization of a personal computer. Certifications: Valid Driver License, CPR certification, BOC, and National Athletic Trainer¿s Association (NATA) certification.
Experience and Education: Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Athletic training or a related field (Physical Education, Physical Therapy, etc. ) Three (3) years of athletic training experience.
Salary Range: The salary range for this classification is: $4,547 - $8,775 monthly.
