James Madison University, a Division I Member of the NCAA and Colonial Athletic Association, is seeking a Director of Compliance. The position reports to the Assistant Athletics Director of Compliance and will work closely with all 18 Division I sports. The position is full-time and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
The Director of Compliance will be responsible for monitoring bylaws 12, 13, and 16 and will be instrumental in creating and presenting the compliance offices educational efforts. The Director of Compliance will be responsible for providing timely and accurate interpretations to coaches and staff, and when needed, will investigate and report NCAA violations.
Duties and responsibilities include:
The Director of Compliance will monitor the recruiting process, including but not limited to, official and unofficial visits, recruiting and telephone logs, and will work closely with the Athletics Business Office to approve recruiting reimbursements. The position will approve, collect paperwork on and monitor all institutional camp and clinic information as well. This position will also assist in initial eligibility reviews for high school prospective student-athletes. Lastly, this position will also assist in facilitating and monitoring on campus recruiting functions such as, events on home football game days.
The Director of Compliance will assist in creating and presenting rules education to all staff, student-athletes and outside constituents. The successful candidate will work closely with coaches to provide interpretations of NCAA, CAA and institutional bylaws and rules. The position will also create rules education materials such as tip-sheets and newsletters for coaches and staff.
The Director of Compliance will be responsible for monitoring all awards provided to student-athletes. They will also approve complimentary tickets for student-athletes for both home and away games.
Other responsibilities include approval of promotional activities for student-athletes, supervising the practicum and internship students, assisting in the accurate maintenance of rosters and squad lists, approving all try-out participants for sports programs, assisting the compliance GA in monitoring bylaw 17, and assisting in the updating of the compliance offices policies and procedures manual.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree is required. Qualified candidates should have at least 2 years of experience working in NCAA rules compliance, preferably full-time at the Division I level. They must have a strong working knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines with the ability to apply and enforce; working knowledge of Compliance Assistant (CA), LSDBi, and NCAA RSRO. Candidate must have working knowledge of a compliance software such as FrontRush. The candidate must have excellent written and verbal communications skills, demonstrated interpersonal skills, and be an organized individual. Lastly, they must have a demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and an ability to establish a good rapport and effective working relationships with student-athletes, coaches, administrators and staff.
