Reporting to both the Regional Finance Officer and the Global Head of Tax (based in Melbourne, Australia), TWE seeks a Senior Tax Manager who will be responsible for managing all aspects of strategic and compliance taxation for all North American based TWE entities.
The successful incumbent will not only be strong at the strategic pillars for this role (tax advice, compliance, risk and strategic projects), you will also be strong technically with a strong understanding of financial reporting for income tax (GAAP or IFRS), adept knowledge of federal, state and international income tax regulations, sales and use tax, excise tax and property tax compliance and reporting concepts.
Provision of high quality advice to the Americas businesses as and when required on all aspects of US federal, state and international tax issues including a risk assessment of issues.
Develop effective relationships with all levels of business unit personnel, enabling the identification of tax issues and opportunities relevant to the business.
Responsibility for meeting all tax compliance requirements, including but not limited to management, review and lodgement of all federal and state income tax returns prepared by an outsourced provider.
Manage the compliance and reporting for sales and use tax, property tax and excise tax (preparation of which is outsourced) to ensure compliance obligations are met and tax payments and returns are administered in a timely and accurate manner.
Responsibility for the current and deferred tax accounting balances prepared under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) by an outsourced provider and subsequent reporting to Treasury Wine Estates Limited.
Coordinate and prepare foreign corporation filings as required for submission to Global Tax in relation to compliance for other countries including Australia.
Management of transfer pricing including, but not limited to, preparation of appropriate contemporaneous documentation reports between all related parties and coordination with other Treasury businesses internationally to ensure compliance.
Assist with tax projects/planning initiatives as directed, including timely updates regarding applicable legislative activity.
Tax Risk Management
Ensure the tax implications of all tax issues are understood and documented in accordance with TWEs’ tax risk management framework.
Manage and resolve all revenue authority enquiries, including (but not limited to) current or impending risk reviews and audits.
In conjunction with the Regional Finance Officer, responsibility for all expenditure relating to the tax consulting budget in respect of key responsibilities.
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, law, commerce or related field required; CPA qualified (preferred).
5+ years corporate income tax experience, including previous managerial experience required.
Proven experience with finance / tax research software required; Experience with JDE accounting software a plus.
Strong understanding of financial reporting for income tax under either GAAP or IFRS.
Understanding of federal, state and international income tax regulations.
Understanding of sales and use tax, excise tax and property tax compliance and reporting concepts.
Working knowledge of tax accounting related to acquisitions, mergers and dispositions.
Highly organized, accurate and responsive to deadlines.
Motivated and able to work independently while managing multiple tasks.
Ability to apply well developed analytical and communication skills.
Ability to build strong and effective working relationships with individuals at all levels, both within the organization and externally. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
