Athletics Learning Specialist The University of Akron Akron, OH
•Design and implement academic support plans and learning strategies for under-prepared and learning challenged student athletes assigned to at-risk program. Develop, coordinate and implement individualized evidence based academic support plans for identified student athletes •Coordinate the assessment and evaluation of individual students to determine learning needs and additional support •Conduct one on one academic meetings with a caseload of students teaching learning strategies and address academic needs •Serve as liaison to the Office of Accessibility and help coordinate registration, learning disability testing and follow through with accommodations and services •Assist with the scheduling of tutoring for Student Athletics using Grades First. Assist with orientation, summer programs and other programs assigned by the Director of Student Athlete Support Services and the Associate Athletic Director for Student Athlete Academic Services •Work collaboratively with relevant constituent groups and individuals, including Academic Support Services for Student Athletics, Faculty, the Office of Accessibility and coaches to increase retention and enhance the academic success of assigned student athletes. Provide education and information to coaches and staff as needed
Required Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor's Degree. A minimum of one (1) year experience working with a culturally diverse population and demonstrated success in developing and teaching learning/study skills to at risk students. Strong communication skills to develop/maintain effective interaction with a diverse population.
