James Madison University, a Division I member of the NCAA and Colonial Athletic Association, is accepting applications for a Lead Athletics Facilities Coordinator to provide oversight of an assigned athletic facility on campus. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to opening/closing facility; maintaining the appearance and functionality of the facility; providing varsity sporting and special event support; receiving, taking inventory of equipment; scheduling lights; and ensuring safe condition of the buildings. The Lead Athletics Facilities Coordinator will provide support to all athletic facilities coordinators and make key decisions in day to day operations. This position is full-time and includes benefits.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Provide coordination and guidance to a group of fellow facilities coordinators. Serve as the first line resource to help other facilities coordinators with troubleshooting and problem solving in day to day operations and issues. -Serve as main point of contact for facility operations in the absence of the Director of Athletic Facilities and Events. - Oversee part time operations assistant program to include hiring, training, scheduling and termination of staff. - Assist in scheduling staff to ensure appropriate facilities support for athletic and special events. - Ensure assigned athletic facilities are properly prepared for daily use, performing tasks such as setting up, testing and troubleshooting game equipment, audio/visual systems, scoreboards, shot clocks, message boards, etc. - Prepare fields or playing facility for day-to-day practice and game day use by performing tasks such as painting fields, setting up tables, chairs, benches, equipment, etc. - Make repairs to and/or reports all routine and non-routine maintenance and repairs via work orders for facilities and facilities-related equipment. Act as liaison with Facilities Management or appropriate vendor to ensure all repairs are completed to the standards of the department. - Make critical decisions that could affect the safety of student athletes, coaches, and patrons. - Oversee improvement projects within assigned facilities. - Work in support of assigned varsity game day operations and special events including pre-event set-up, in-event operation and post-event take down. - Assist in event management duties for varsity sporting and special events within assigned facilities. - Lead field paint scheduling in collaboration with other facility coordinators. - Serve as fixed assets coordinator, inventorying new equipment, maintaining and updating the facility equipment inventory, and sending old equipment to surplus. - Understand and practice all university safety procedures. - Ensure compliance with all relevant institutional, CAA and NCAA rules. - Work evenings, weekends and holidays when needed.
Required Qualifications: - Must possess working knowledge of facility maintenance methods and techniques, and a general working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing skills. - Must possess knowledge of risk management. - Must possess critical thinking and resource management skills. - Must possess excellent written, interpersonal and oral communication skills. - Must have ability to obtain (training will be provided): forklift certification, hydraulic lift operation certification and OSHA certification. - A valid driver’s license. - Ability to move relatively heavy objects and moderate lifting of 20-50 lbs. is essential. - Basic computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications: - Prior experience working within athletics or recreational facilities. - Prior experience in painting/lining fields. - Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
