The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), a NCAA Division II athletic conference based in Indianapolis, with 13 member institutions in Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee and West Virginia, and four (4) associate members in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, invites applications for an Assistant Commissioner. The individual selected will be primarily responsible for providing development, oversight, and on-site support to the league’s annual championship events. The position will work cooperatively with Conference staff to effectively meet championships goals. The league seeks an experienced professional willing to travel frequently and, in addition to primary championship responsibility, provide leadership and support in sponsorship development and/or strategic communication.
Primary duties for the position will include:
Oversight and logistical support of Conference Championships, including pre-management responsibilities and on-site event coordination.
Development and maintenance of championships event manuals and other championship documents.
Administration of pre-championships meetings, conference calls, and site visits.
Coordination and recruitment of championships event personnel and volunteers.
Coordination of preseason polls, championships website, and social media championship projects.
Identification and implementation of community engagement initiatives in championship communities.
Coordination of the Conference merchandise program and inventory.
Oversight of the Conference Awards program, including annual and sport-specific honors.
Assistance to the Commissioner on development of championships and awards budgets.
Collection of institutional schedules and continued maintenance of schedule changes.
Assistance in the organization of annual conference administrative and committee meetings.
Attendance at athletic events on campuses and at NCAA postseason tournament sites.
Activation of sponsorship support at all league championship events.
Support to the Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Secondary liaison to the Great Midwest Game Environment Committee.
Serve as a liaison to select Conference sport committees.
Communication and coordination of projects and tasks with conference staff.
Active participation in supported professional development opportunities.
Representation of the Conference with National Associations and National Committees.
Other duties as assigned by the Commissioner.
In addition to Championship responsibilities, duties in one or both of the following areas will be required, depending on experience and qualifications.
Primary communication contact for select conference sports.
Facilitation of G-MAC strategic communication plan including contributions to social media and marketing strategies.
Assist Assistant Commissioner for Strategic Communications in the maintenance of the Great Midwest website presence, greatmidwestsports.com.
Development of Conference publications and printed materials.
Secondary liaison to the G-MAC Sports Information Director Committee.
Cultivation of relationships with campus, local and regional media.
Support of conference statistical services and reporting.
Support the maintenance of historical documents and G-MAC Record Book.
Develop and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies for conference partners.
Maintenance and development of short- and long-term plans for sponsorship.
Participation in events focused on developing external relations.
Activation of corporate partner relationships and reporting to internal and external groups.
Serve as a resource to conference membership on current league partnerships.
Work with conference staff to facilitate Corporate Partner branding.
Maintenance and promotion of Conference branding initiatives.
The position will require frequent travel as well as night and weekend work. The Assistant Commissioner will be expected to adhere to all NCAA and G-MAC rules and regulations.
Bachelor’s degree required;
Three years of experience in an athletic administrative setting;
Progressive event management experience and demonstrated proficiencies in the areas of fundraising and/or sports information.
Excellent written and oral communications skills;
Strong interpersonal relationship skills
Ability to work collaboratively;
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks;
Ability to work long hours, including nights and weekends;
Willingness to travel extensively for championship and other conference-related events;
Strong organizational skills;
Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, ad Content Management tools (SIDEARM).
