We are seeking qualified applicants for the full-time, 10-month position of head coach for men’s and women’s cross country and track & field. Goucher fields 21 intercollegiate teams competing in the NCAA Division III as a part of the Landmark Conference. This head coaching position provides leadership for men’s and women’s cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field programs.
Reporting to the director of athletics, the head coach will provide vision, leadership, and oversight for all aspects of the cross country and track & field programs, to include coaching the teams; planning, organizing, and supervising team practices/training; actively identifying, evaluating, and recruiting student-athletes; and working within NCAA, Conference, and departmental guidelines. The head coach will be called upon to supervise and coordinate the work of two graduate assistants and a number of volunteer assistant coaches, as well as play a major role in fundraising activities for the program. The incumbent will demonstrate a strong commitment to the academic achievement of student-athletes by monitoring and actively encouraging participants to succeed academically and represent the College with the utmost integrity. The head coach may also teach a physical education course, and participate in administrative assignments and other duties as assigned by the athletic director.
Qualified candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred); demonstrated success in coaching cross country and track & field at the collegiate level, preferably in the role of head coach; and a minimum of three years college recruiting experience. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; a sophisticated understanding of applicable NCAA and Conference rules, regulations, and policies; and the ability to travel and work evenings and weekends, as needed. The successful candidate will also be subject to a background check as a condition of employment.
