Basic Function: Assist in the planning, development, and communication of information to keep the public and media informed of Intercollegiate Athletics’ accomplishments and programs. Reports to director of athletic communications or designated supervisor.
Examples of duties/essential functions: •Serve as primary media contact for a fall, winter and spring sport and gameday assistance with other sports. (Most likely: Fall-Field Hockey, Spring: Softball) •Design, write, and edit various publications (e.g. record books, programs, and newsletters). •Arrange interviews and photo sessions with student athletes; counsel and advise student athletes regarding interviews. •Promote Kent State athletics through use of social media. •Nominate and promote student athletes for honors and awards. •Hire and/or supervise in-game photographer, statistical and scoreboard operating personnel. •Record and file contest results, published articles, and photographs for historical reference; evaluate and update athletic department's website. •May supervise students and/or provide functional guidance of support staff or other employees who work on a project or assignment on a temporary or intermittent basis. •Possibility of broadcast and public address opportunities for home events •Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree required; preferred in communications, journalism or sport management.
Experience in collegiate sports information or relevant area.
Must be able to work nontraditional hours, including evenings and weekends.
Must meet the admission requirements for graduate school at Kent State.
Knowledge Of: • Desktop publishing, Personal computer applications, Adobe products, Stat Crew software • Special preference given to those with Side Arm web publications and broadcast experience Skill In: • Written and interpersonal communication, Public relations Ability To: • Work nontraditional hours, including evenings and weekends. Possible travel with teams.
