Summary: This position collaborates on the publicizing of American’s 16 intercollegiate athletic teams and serves as the primary contact for Men’s Basketball and other assigned sports. Maintains team web pages, statistics, video highlights, photos, and all social media applications across teams and department initiatives.Experience with live broadcast production and media relations desired. Intercollegiate athletics experience preferred.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position directly supervises 12-18 interns and work-study students.
Work Environment: Fairly frequent traveling in-season, including travel with men’s basketball team to all away-from-home events.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Exempt/35 hours/week Coordinator/Analyst B Nights and weekends as required
Essential Functions: Writes and edits external athletic messaging in order to provide accurate and relevant information to the public and the media. Prepares and provides pre- and postgame information for approximately half of AU’s athletic contests in order to provide accurate and relevant information to the public and the media.
Serves as the primary media relations contact for Men’s Basketball, Women’s Soccer, and Men’s Soccer. Makes final decisions on record-book structure (including layout and design, statistical structure and content), feature stories for the AU website. Maintains team web pages, team video highlights, photos, and all social media applications for each sport assignment. Drafts press releases.
Serves as producer of all live-streamed home events
Manages event staff and compilation of statistics at approximately half of AU’s athletic contests in order to provide accurate and relevant information to the public and the media.
Responsible for the supervision and training of all interns and part-time employees. Maintains general office order and organization in office to maintain a smooth running office, and proper game-day media relations/operations for the Athletic Department.
Conducts research to create and maintain records.

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
1-3 years of relevant experience
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Extensive experience in sports information and game statistics programs.
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to direct/produce live-stream events.
Experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, and all Microsoft Programs.
Strong experience in social media, video, broadcast, and photography.
Strong writing and editing skills and publishing knowledge.
