Texas Tech Athletics is looking for a dynamic individual to provide leadership for our football academic support unit. This is a full-time professional position within the Marsha Sharp Center for Student-Athletes, a comprehensive support services unit for Red Raider student-athletes. The Assistant Athletic Director - Football Academics is responsible for providing direct oversight to football athletics academic advising staff and providing leadership for a comprehensive football academic support plan that is in line with the mission of Texas Tech Athletics. This position requires consistent, direct, and open communication with football coaches and staff; and a thorough understanding of NCAA and Big 12 Conference guidelines and regulations.
Review of applications will begin immediately with a desired January 2020 start date.
Provide direct oversight to football athletics academic advising staff; manage an effective process of monitoring student-athlete academic progress, incorporating current best practices in the profession.
Serve as the advisor to a designated group of football student-athletes; monitor their academic progress; provide course advisement, career, and personal guidance; educate student-athletes on rules of eligibility.
Communicate with football coaching staff through scheduled academic meetings; regularly and promptly share detailed information regarding the ongoing academic progress of assigned student-athletes.
Regularly communicate the progress, outcomes, and direction of work to the Senior Associate Athletics Director and Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services; make recommendations concerning the improvement of programs and services.
With a thorough understanding of NCAA legislation, Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Graduation Success Rate (GSR) guidelines, serve as the unit’s primary point of contact for monitoring and projecting student-athlete academic outcomes.
Collaborate with the Learning Assistance Program (LAP) to assign tutoring, learning specialists sessions, and other academic support sessions.
Monitor & evaluate student-athletes' progress toward degree and eligibility requirements.
Primary liaison with Leadership Academy for football Guest Coach Program.
Assist with the recruiting process during prospective student-athletes’ visits to campus.
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Three (3) years experience in an intercollegiate athletics department or other work experience that would demonstrate the necessary background and knowledge. Must have a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
Master's degree in counseling, sport management, higher education or related area.
Five years of experience as an academic counselor/ advisor for student-athletes at the Division I level.
At least one year of supervisory experience with full-time or student staff in a student-athlete academic support unit.
Direct work experience with an FBS football program.
