POSITION SUMMARY: High Point University Athletics is seeking a highly motived individual to serve as the Communications & Digital Media Assistant for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. The individual will serve as the primary and/or secondary contact for assigned sport(s) and assist with digital and social media strategy for High Point’s 16 teams. This position will report to the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications.
Bachelor's degree required; preferred in Digital Media, Sports Management, Journalism, or Communications. Experience in athletics/sports preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
Strong writing, editing and design (print and web) skills
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Working knowledge of web site management (preferably SIDEARM)
Knowledge of statistics for assigned sport(s) and statistical input software (StatCrew, NCAA Live Stats)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
Ability to develop and maintain relationships with members of the media, coaches, student-athletes, athletics staff, parents, fans and alumni
Ability to work independently as well as lead projects
Ability to work flexible schedule including late night and weekend hours
Serve as primary and/or secondary media contact for multiple programs; managing media relations, publications, social media and website contest.
Help execute the department’s social media strategy across all platforms to increase followers, viewers and creative content.
Assist with the design and execution of the department’s graphics and branding templates.
Builds relationships with and pitches stories to local, regional and national media contacts.
Tabulates official statistics, creates game notes, record books and other publications for assigned sport(s).
Attends all home athletic events of assigned sport(s) and away as necessary.
Maintains historical records and statistics for assigned sport(s).
Manages award nomination/selection processes for assigned sport(s).
Creates and produces game programs for assigned sport(s) as required.
Designs and edits content for assigned sport(s) on highpointpanthers.com, including news and feature stories, photos, rosters, schedules and multimedia content
Assists in maintaining official HPU Athletics accounts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
Maintains positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating effectively with students, students’ parents, faculty, co-workers and managers
Other duties as assigned
