The Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations oversees all areas within our media relations department. This position is the main point of contact between the local media and the Athletic Department. The incumbent would communicate the daily stories of UAlbany Athletics to the campus constituents and the local community. S/he would broadcast all of our success to the Capital District to encourage families to attend events and support our students on campus.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Be the Athletic Department's liaison with local media - Direct all sports information duties - Generate publicity for all 18 sports - Coordinate digital communication for University at Albany Athletics - Ensure overall supervision of all sports information/media-related contests and events and sports information for high profile sports including Division I football, basketball, and lacrosse - Write, edit and ensure publication design and coordination - Generate the publicity and promotion of the University's 18 intercollegiate sports - Coordinate digital communication and staff supervision - Supervise two full-time Assistant Directors of Media Relations, one paid intern, and 10-15 hourly statisticians and in-game announcers
Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization in journalism, communications, public relations or a related field
A minimum of three years experience in a Division I athletic media relations office and/or 5 years experience at a news publication or broadcast company
Strong organizational and writing skills
Expertise and demonstrated ability in Web site design, computers, statistical software packages, desktop publishing (PageMaker 6.5 and Adobe InDesign), image acquisition and editing (Photoshop)
Competence with social media applications including Twitter, Facebook and others on the technology horizon
Stat Crew game experience
Must be available to work nights and weekends
