TITLE: Assistant Director of Athletic Communications
DEPARTMENT: Athletic Department
REPORTS TO: Assistant Athletic Director of Communications
PRIMARY FUNCTION AND RELATIONSHIP TO TOTAL ORGANIZATION
•Serves as the primary athletic communications contact for ORU baseball, women's soccer and other programs as assigned. Assists with basketball press row operations, radio broadcasts and other sports.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of and adhere to applicable NCAA, Conference, University and departmental rules and regulations.
•Assist with the operation and execution of all social media efforts as outlined in the ORU Social Media Strategy. Strategize with and educate athletics staff members, coaches and student-athletes on incorporating relevant social media techniques into their culture.
•Prepare news releases and feature stories on student-athletes, coaches and team performances. Answers media requests for information or photographs (e.g., background material, pictures, radio tapes, film, or video clips, etc.)
•Direct research, writing, and editing of annual media guides and other brochures for assigned sports.
•Direct the oversight of the baseball press box, including radio, television and video streaming operations.
•Travel with teams to away games providing complete coverage of the events and other events as assigned by Assistant Athletic Director/Communications. •Ensure that the results of every home sports event are transmitted to news media, wire services, opponent’s media relations offices and coaches, the Conference, and the NCAA.
•Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent knowledge and experience.
•Two years of related experience is preferred. •Demonstrated ability working within an athletic department at the collegiate level with a focus on sports information and video and graphic elements from concept to creation. •Proficient in the use of Photoshop and InDesign and the rest of the Adobe Creative Suite. •Outstanding communication, organizational, interpersonal and written skills. •Ability to travel as well as night and weekend work.
