The Valdosta State Athletic Department is accepting applications for multiple graduate assistant positions. Graduate assistants will help promote the Blazers’ 12 NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletic programs. Valdosta State University is a member of the highly competitive Gulf South Conference and won the NCAA Division II National Championship in Football in December of 2018.
The Facilities/Game Operations Graduate Assistants will receive a monthly stipend in addition to tuition remission (not fees). Responsibilities include, but not limited to, assisting the athletic administration with the management, administration and supervision of athletics facilities, athletic events including all aspects of game-day production, assisting in overseeing undergraduate 5th Year Aid students, and other duties as assigned. This position will be involved with football, volleyball, soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, and softball, and the maintenance/supervision of the corresponding facilities. (2 Openings)
The Marketing/Promotions/Game Operations Graduate Assistant will receive a monthly stipend in addition to tuition remission (not fees). Responsibilities include, but not limited to, assisting the athletic administration with developing and implementing marketing and sales plans for all sports with a focus on increasing overall attendance, student attendance and revenue. Preparing all aspects of game-day production and promotions, assisting with community outreach, assisting in overseeing undergraduate 5th Year Aid students, helping coordinate events that coincide with athletic events and all VSU Athletics marketing efforts, and other duties as assigned. This position will be involved with all twelve intercollegiate sports along with the competitive cheer and dance squads. (1 Opening)
The Athletic Graphic Design and Creative Content Graduate Assistant will receive a monthly stipend in addition to tuition remission (not fees). Responsibilities include, but not limited to, working with the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications in the creation of graphic design, social media updates and highlights for use on VSU’s social media channels and athletic website. The candidate will help with design of game programs and other promotional materials and will assist in game-day operations. Previous experience in a collegiate athletic communications office and some working knowledge of Stat Crew/NCAA Live Stats is preferred. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and a strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator. Experience with graphic design is required as the candidate will create promotional graphics and content for the athletic department. (1 Opening)
The Sports Dietitian Graduate Assistant will receive a monthly stipend in addition to tuition remission (not fees). Responsibilities include, but not limited to, coordination of the sports nutrition program, serve as the sports dietitian for all 12 intercollegiate teams, assist in management of weight room fueling station, work with nutrition budget to enhance program, management of student volunteers, and work closely with coaching staffs, athletic trainers, strength & conditioning staff and athletic administration. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or related field, be a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with active status through the commission on Dietetic Registration, and be a licensed Dietitian in the State of Georgia. Applicants must also have knowledge of sports nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, and eating disorders/disordered eating. (1 Opening)
Appointment contingent on candidate being accepted to the VSU Graduate School in the program of the applicant’s choosing. All graduate assistantships are renewable for two consecutive years (two years total). The 2nd year appointment is contingent upon successful completion of GA duties and responsibilities which includes maintaining a minimum of six graduate credits each semester of assistantship and maintaining at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA. The candidate appointed to the position will receive a yearly stipend of approximately $6000 in addition to a tuition waiver. This person must be willing and able to work daily office hours and nights and weekends throughout the academic school year including vacation periods.
