East Tennessee State University, located in Johnson City, TN and a member of the Southern Conference, is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Trainer. This is a 12 month position with benefits. The selected candidate will assist the Director of Sports Medicine with the care of intercollegiate student athletes. In particular, this position will be responsible for direct care for athletic team activities, including but not limited to: prevention, practice/event coverage, injury evaluation, physician referral, medical appointments, treatment and rehabilitation and team travel. Assist with athletic training services to physician within the BucSports Athletic Medicine Center. Activate the Emergency Action Plan for sports/venues as assigned when appropriate. Maintain proper medical records in accordance with all government and university guidelines. Serve as a mentor to certified graduate assistant athletic trainers. Assist in organizing and supervising undergraduate interns. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of casting, splinting, injection prep in an outpatient sports medicine clinic. Knowledge of orthopedic bracing specifically measurement of prophylactic knee braces. Knowledge of athlete monitoring methods and ability to use data analysis to alter training programs. Ability to use Vivature/Blue Ocean EMR. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to understand and apply NCAA Division I policies and procedures.
Required qualifications: Master’s degree in sport science or related field is required. Minimum of two years of experience as a certified athletic trainer (certified graduate assistantship accepted). Current National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) certification and current CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer or equivalent is required along with the eligibility for State of Tennessee licensure.
Preferred qualifications: Ability to apply casting and splinting material as directed by team physician and documented expertise with Vivature/Blue Ocean EMR. 1-2 years experience with NCAA Division 1 Football.
