To assist the Head Men’s Track and Field coaches in the overall management of the indoor and outdoor track and field and cross country programs ensuring the student athletes have an impactful, equitable and safe experience.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1.Direct, organize and administer all aspects of the instruction, practice planning and advisement of assigned student-athlete position group
•Assist head coaches with implementing training programs for men’s cross country and track and field •Provide quality coaching and instruction for men’s team during pre-season, in-season practices, and competitions •Mentor student-athletes to promote athletic, academic, emotional, and social growth •Drive college vans to transport team members to off-site practices and competition venues •Assist with travel arrangements, fundraising activities, home competitions/meet management, and equipment issue/return/care •Attend athletic department staff meetings and program staff meetings
2.Actively recruit qualified student athletes
•Formulate and execute a recruiting plan that targets a diverse group of potential students athletes that can achieve high levels of success academically, socially and athletically •Execute the recruiting plan by attending opportunities to evaluate potential student athletes regularly, maintain consistent effective honest communication with potential student athletes, maintain contact with high school and junior coaches, as well as parents.
Education: Bachelor’s degree; maintain a valid driver’s license and meet St. Olaf College driver authorization criteria with a satisfactory driving record
Experience: 1+ year of college coaching experience
Experience: Experience coaching sprints and jumps, other events may be considered.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Knowledge of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and MIAC regulations
Ability to be a motivated self-starter
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
Ability to work successfully independently and as a member of a team
Ability to multi-task effectively
Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines
Ability to interact effectively with coaches, administrators, student athletes and parents
Ability to establish program goals and objectives that support a strategic plan
Skill in using computer applications including word processing and spreadsheets
Ability and willingness to support, respect and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community including faculty, staff, students and constituents
