About the Position
Reporting to and receiving work lead direction from the Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance, the Director of Compliance works independently to provide NCAA rules compliance support to administration, coaches and student-athletes. The Director of Compliance focuses on NCAA amateurism, eligibility, SJSU admissions, rules education efforts, housing, and roster management.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
NCAA Eligibility and Amateurism, SJSU Admissions Liaison
Lead contact for NCAA Bylaw 12 and 14 compliance efforts.
Perform NCAA initial-eligibility transcript evaluations and monitor prospect certification in the NCAA eligibility center for all sponsored sports.
Perform SJSU admissions evaluations of incoming freshman student-athletes.
Lead contact in processing SJSU special admissions for student-athletes.
Athletics liaison for SJSU Admissions Office.
Facilitate transfer student academic evaluation process; work cooperatively with coaching staffs and academic eligibility coordinator to inform them of eligibility status of prospective student athletes.
Maintain amateurism records such as student-athlete seasons of competition, employment records, promotional activities, etc.
Housing & Roster Management
Assist in creating and maintaining accurate academic and competitive eligibility rosters.
Athletics liaison for Student Campus Housing.
Oversee the management of changes to team rosters, including additions, removals, tryouts, male practice players, squad lists, etc.
Coordinate with coaches on student-athlete room assignments; relay all housing information to Student Campus Housing.
Maintain and supervise student-athlete transfer records.
Responsible for recording and maintaining student-athlete seasons of competition/amateurism reports.
Maintain and update records as needed in compliance software.
General NCAA Rules Compliance
Research and prepare NCAA educational materials.
Update and revise Compliance Office policy, manuals, and forms in accordance with NCAA rule changes.
Research case precedent for waiver support, rule interpretations, and violation reports.
Prepare and submit rules interpretations, waivers, and violation reports as needed.
Serve as compliance liaison for various sport staffs as assigned.
