The assistant coach, men’s basketball, under the direction of the head coach, assists in successfully coaching and managing the men’s basketball program.
Coach during practices and games
Recruit qualified student athletes
Provide academic support for student athletes
Other basketball program tasks including but not limited to: scouting, video breakdown, individual workouts, strength & conditioning, alumni events, student worker supervision, coordinating community service projects, fundraising, and weight room/gym monitoring
Ensure the welfare of the student-athlete in all activities
Abide by all NCAA and USA South rules
Complete the NCAA rules test annually
Cooperate with other athletic department and institutional personnel
Maintain current certification in CPR/AED training
Supervise athletic facilities for the purposes of safety and security
Serve on college committees when designated
Attend convocations, graduations, etc.
Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Athletics
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Willing to comply with all NCAA rules and regulations
Possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to operate a school vehicle
Reliable, consistent attendance is a requirement and essential function of all positions.
Employees are expected to be punctual and dependable in order to meet the needs of their department and the College.
Ability to use Microsoft Products: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than three (3) hours per day.
Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.
Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
Requires the manual dexterity with normal hand and finger movements.
Requires talking, hearing, and seeing as important elements for completing assigned tasks.
Requires the ability to relate to others beyond giving and receiving instructions: must partner with colleagues without exhibiting behavioral extremes.
Demonstrated history of successful coaching skills
Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
In-depth knowledge of applicable sports and playing rules
Knowledge of NCAA rules governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes
Knowledge of athletic training and conditioning programs and routines
