Head Athletic Trainer

New Jersey City University, a NCAA Division III member of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), is accepting applications for Head Athletic Trainer. Reporting to the Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics, and Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations is responsible for the athletic training needs and all aspects related to sports medicine, rehabilitation, care, administration, leadership and safety of all student-athletes. RESPONSIBILITIES: •Provides leadership, vision and direction to the sports medicine staff. •Upholds to all state and federal standards and ethics related policies and procedures, and ensuring the health and safety of the student-athletes remains top priority. •Administers and oversees the screening, evaluation, care, treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation of injuries to all student-athletes. •Ensures the proper management of all medical records in accordance with federal and state regulations. •Conduct assessments of injuries and provide emergency and/or continued care, provide on-site rehabilitation and determine when referral to physician is warranted for all athletic-related injuries. •Work with 3rd party insurance provider to ensure that all student-athletes are covered by an independent primary health insurance policy and that student-athletes complete a physical examination prior to the start of athletic participation and/or competition. •Lead/assist in the administration of department guidelines, policy and procedure in accordance with national/international best practices and consensus statements. •Lead/assist with the comprehensive coordination of physical examinations, sickle cell testing, and screenings. •Provides direct communication with physicians and coaching staff •Makes appropriate physician’s referrals and appointments. •Ensure the proper management of monitoring weather conditions and dangerous environments (cold/humidity/lightning). •Adheres to Conference guidelines, including visiting team accommodations and services. •Responsible for implementation and rehearsal of health and safety best practices. •Knowledge of rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA and conference should be maintained, reviewed and practiced to ensure compliance relative to those applicable duties. QUALIFICATIONS: •Previous professional supervisory experience •National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA) Certified •Registered as an ATC with the State of New Jersey •Professional CPR/AED and First Aid Certified •New Jersey state registration/certification through the State Board of Medical Examiners •Knowledge of NCAA Division III policy and procedures EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of four years professional athletic training experience REQUIRED: Letter of application, resume and contact information for three professional references.
