Athletic Facilities Maintenance Manager

Under the general direction of the Sr. Associate Athletics Director, Athletic Operations and Facilities, independently manages, organizes, and directs the maintenance and preparation of the athletic facilities. Exercises considerable independent judgment in planning maintenance activities and working with staff to ensure resources are used in the most efficient manner. Ensures that goals and objectives are met with strict adherence to NCAA and PAC-12 rules and regulations, as well as policies and procedures of the department, the University, and the Arizona Board of Regents. Essential Duties : Manages and oversees daily operation of Desert Financial Arena, Weatherup Basketball facility and other facilities as assigned, in preparation for all athletic competitions, events, and practices. (Maintenance activities include building, property, mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, plumbing, carpentry, painting and other repair and maintenance needs, securing appropriate staff from outside departments as needed.) Prepares arena floor for various sport practices and competition to include but not limited to setting up basketball goals, gymnastic competition equipment, wrestling mats and volleyball equipment. Monitors work in progress and upon completion. Monitors the conditions of the facilities and coordinates assessments with coaching staff, administrators, and Risk Management, informing Athletic Facilities Maintenance Coordinator responsible for the given facilities. Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned staff. Assists the Sr. Associate Athletics Director in developing policies and procedures. Ensures that policies and procedures for assigned area are implemented. Acts as primary interface with Intercollegiate Athletics departmental units and sports programs as well as the community within and outside of the university to identify and recommend cost-effective solutions to ensuring the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of all assigned athletic facilities and grounds. Serves as liaison to departmental, University, and outside community, including service vendors. Plans, develops, and manages appropriated and contract budgets and provide long-range planning and cost-saving proposals. Oversees and manages staffing and assigned operations budgets. Authorizes purchases and prepares periodic and annual financial reports and budget requests as requested by the Sr. Associate Athletics Director. Develops work plans in accordance with established unit and department objectives and funding limitations. Reviews job performance of subordinates in conjunction with established unit, department and university goals and objectives. Plans and develops all work schedules, prepares and submits payroll for assigned staff. Collaborates with Athletic Facilities Maintenance Coordinator(s) in scheduling and coordinating work requests for assigned facility, pursuant to requests from coaching staff and administrators. Monitors condition of facilities and coordinates assessment with coaching staff, administrators, and Risk Management and ensures fulfillment by the Athletic Facilities Maintenance Coordinator(s). Contributes to the planning of staging preparation as required by the Sr. Associate Athletics Director, and manages the fulfillment of such preparations, participating when necessary and/or requested. May assist with building maintenance as needed. Adheres to NCAA and PAC-12 rules and regulations, as well as the policies and procedures of the department, the University, and the AZ Board of Regents. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related field and four (4) years experience in facilities maintenance in an athletic environment, including two (2) years of lead and/or supervisory experience; OR, Eight (8) years experience in facilities maintenance in an athletic environment which includes two (2) years lead and/or supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
