Athletic Academic Coordinator

Job Description Summary Advises current and prospective student-athletes concerning academic requirements, provides mentoring, and coordinates tutoring and study hall programs. Works with university stakeholders regarding academic advisement and student success related activities and oversees academic progress per university, conference and NCAA rules. Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). ; Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work requirements indicate. Responsibilities 40%: ACADEMIC SUPPORT Provide a high level of academic support and programming for student-athletes from admission through graduation: Establish relationships and demonstrate a true willingness to communicate the ideas and expectations of the academic program. Coordinate the student-athlete tutoring program and oversee departmental study tables. Oversee academic eligibility for assigned student-athletes. Proactively monitor and provide intervention strategies for student-athletes. Communicate effectively with student-athletes, coaches, staff, and faculty by providing timely and accurate academic reports. 15%: ACADEMIC RECORDS Maintain organized files and records to document academic progress and eligibility. Coordinate student-athlete progress-toward-degree while working with various academic departments, Registrar’s Office, FAR, and individual student-athletes. 10%: RECRUITING Assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes through transcript evaluation for practice, competition, and aid, in addition to scheduling and facilitating academic presentations and tours. 10%: COMMITTEES Serve on staff, departmental, and university committees as assigned. Represent the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics on various levels within the University campus, athletics profession, and the local community. 5%: DEPARTMENT POLICIES Participate in the development and enforcement of Academics and departmental policies and procedures. 5%: STUDENT-ATHLETE ENGAGEMENT Support and promote Student-Athlete Engagement events and seminars. 5%: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Participate and engage in professional development and leadership opportunities. 5%: COMPLIANCE Maintains continual and thorough familiarity with all applicable NCAA, WAC and University rules and regulations. Establishes and ensures communication and enforcement of rules and regulations for all staff members and student workers supervised. Coordinates any eligibility waivers for incoming and continuing student-athletes on assigned teams. Manage, track, and predict APR for assigned teams. 5%: Other Duties Performs other duties as assigned by Associate AD for Compliance & Student Success and Assistant AD for Academics. Assist in oversight of student-athlete book distribution process.

Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years of related experience in advising students, teaching and coaching, or academic programs. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Preferred Requirements: NCAA Division I athletic program experience is preferred; working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations is preferred. |
