Head Athletic Trainer

POSITION SUMMARY The University of Sioux Falls Athletic program is seeking a qualified individual for a fulltime Head Athletic Trainer to help in all phases of a successful athletic program. USF is a member of NCAA Division II and of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. MAJOR FUNCTIONS • Develops overall athletic training program for University of Sioux Falls , including injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and counseling for student-athletes. • Coordinate athletic training services for scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as necessary. • Administers first aid and emergency care at games, transports athletes to doctors, maintains a confidential correspondence with the physician and his/her supporting staff, completes required insurance forms, and grants physician referrals. • Coordinate the schedules of physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete. • Develops and enforces infectious disease control protocols and testing. • Coordinates and assists with student-athletes' physical exams, evaluates and plans rehabilitation programs, and works with strength and conditioning staff on training. • Collaborate with Avera (medical staffing) for coverage for practice and contests, ensures medical staffing coverage of events, and travels with and provides medical services for University of Sioux Falls Athletic teams. • Administers education and counseling on athletic injuries, nutritional and weight maintenance, strength programs, and drug education and testing, and establishes continuing education programs. • Work cooperatively with Avera Sports Medicine Team in supervision of assistant athletic trainers. • Works in conjunction with the strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs. • Collaborates with the Athletic Director in the development of the athletic training program budget. • Evaluates and recommends new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the athletic training program. • Coordinates up-to-date documentation, filing, and maintenance of all medical related records. • Leading discussions with student-athletes and possibly parents/legal guardians in regards to treatments of injuries and confirmation that student-athletes’ insurance will cover procedures (as USF does not provide secondary athletic insurance). • Review all concussion management and emergency safety plans and submit all necessary reports to NCAA regarding concussions and catastrophic injuries. • Serve as the liaison of the USF Athletic Complex and performs facility monitoring, reports maintenance, and other repair needs to appropriate departments. QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. • NATA BOC (Board of Certification) Certified Athletic Trainer. • First Aid/CPR/AED Certified. • Certified Athletic Trainer in the state of South Dakota (USF willing to work with candidate if not yet certified to make sure process is completed). • Commitment to the Christian mission of the University. • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills. • Detail oriented; strong organizational skills; ability to work independently; self-motivated and work as a leader and/or member of participant. • Ability to work well with a diverse group of people and as a part of team. • Weekend & evening work necessary for success in position. • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds; ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods. • Ability to successfully pass required background check. • Proficient with desktop computer, Microsoft Office Suite, Windows XP and other software as needed for position. • Travel is necessary with a valid driver’s license required.
