Director, Athletic Communications

The Director for Athletic Communications is responsible for the planning and implementation of all phases of communications for varsity athletics and acts as the Sports Information liaison to the NCAA and the athletic conferences to which we belong. This individual works closely with the Associate Athletic Director and the senior leadership of Athletics to set strategic priorities related to athletic communications. 1. Serve as primary contact for varsity sports teams: provide communications coverage to include attending home athletic events, traveling with teams during post season play (if applicable), keeping statistics, relaying competition results, and executing communications strategy related to printed and digital materials. 2. Develop the vision and provide management for the department's official website. Provide oversight and direction for the WashU Sports Network (approximately 125 events per year) including relationships with external vendors. 3. Assist Associate AD for External Relations to: -develop WashU Athletics social media and communications strategies, including planning and implementation of public relations initiatives and consistent branding, and -develop relationships with local, regional, and national media members to increase coverage of WashU Athletics. 4. Maintain close contact with athletic governing bodies (NCAA, UAA CCIW) as Athletic Communications liaison; monitor submission guidelines for national-level student-athlete awards nominations. Craft and submit nominations for student-athletes using up-to-date information from coaches. Design and write sport publications and graphics related to varsity sports. 5. Supervise and manage one full-time staff member; schedule and oversee work of broadcast team, photographers, and other athletic event-related staff or consultants; recruit, train, and supervise student assistant. 6. Manage athletics communications budget, covering related costs for all varsity competitions. 7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required: Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Preferred: Master’s degree in Sports Administration and five years’ experience in collegiate athletics Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and video production |
