DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Instructor, 9-Month Full-time faculty members are responsible for the following direct instructional activities: - Conduct assigned classes of instruction in the best manner to achieve student learning.
- Promote student persistence, engagement, success, and completion.
- Present information, ideas, and skills in ways that are appropriate to a variety of learning styles and that show sensitivity to a diverse student population.
- Provide students with the approved course syllabus and then relate instruction and evaluation to that syllabus.
- Respond tactfully to student questions and problems.
- Explain evaluation criteria and methods to students at the beginning of each course.
- Evaluate achievement with timely interim and final performance evaluations and assign grades that reflect achievement of course objectives.
- Utilize effectively the total class contact hours.
- Maintain accurate records, including, but not limited to attendance records, 10% completion reports, grades, and reports documenting student withdrawals.
- Provide a developmental approach to academic and career advising for assigned students/advisees.
- Maintain overall accessibility to students through regular office hours and in arranging out-of-class consultations to accommodate student needs.
- Submit College-requested records in a timely manner so that College officials can perform their duties in an efficient and orderly fashion. Examples of records include, but are not limited to attendance records, 10% completion reports, grades, and reports documenting student withdrawals.
Full-time faculty members are expected to participate in indirect instructional activities, which may include, as appropriate: - Revise and develop curriculum.
- Select and/or recommend appropriate instructional materials and textbooks.
- Serve on various committees and study groups.
- Attend and participate in scheduled College meetings, conferences, and graduation.
- Recruit students to the College and their respective programs.
- Assist with and/or participate in College-related and community activities.
- Maintain competence in the area of specialization/teaching responsibility.
Head Coach – Women’s Fastpitch Softball - Develop, coordinate, and oversee the day-to-day operations of the softball program including recruitment and selection of student-athletes, ensuring compliance with College, regional, and NJCAA recruiting rules and regulations and initiating the process for determining academic eligibility.
- Establish clear strategies for the team and implement organized practices that develop the skills needed to compete in in-game events.
- Schedule and conduct regular practice sessions in and out of season, including the organization and execution of tryouts and clinics.
- Assess athlete’s skills, monitor during competition and practice, organize and direct individual and small group practice activities/exercises based on performance.
- Monitor the academic progress of all student-athletes including the progress and eligibility of transfer students. Maintain database to track student-athlete academic progress.
- Adhere to all rules, regulations, and policies of the College, Athletic Department, NJCAA, and federal Title IX requirements.
- Assist with searching, selecting, and training qualified assistant and volunteer coaches following College policies.
- Assist with monitoring expenditures which may include ordering equipment, uniforms and supplies, travel, and facility needs.
- Ensure the safety of student-athletes and coaching staff through careful monitoring of the conditions of equipment and facilities. Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
- Establish and ensure communication and enforcement of rules and regulations regarding Title IX, student conduct, behavior, class attendance, and College policies and procedures.
- Assist with approved fundraising activities as required.
- Model and foster sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct toward players, officials, and spectators. Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. Report any rule or policy violations to the appropriate college authorities.
- Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional development activities to improve coaching performance.
- Maintain a high standard of professional and ethical practice in representing the College. Maintain confidentiality of relevant information. Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the field or discipline with continued adherence to professional accountability. Establish and maintain effective working relationships and partnerships. Accept responsibility for managing situations and problems. Work cooperatively with team members and colleagues and contribute positively and constructively to the achievement of team and College objectives. Adhere to the College’s policies, procedures, and other established guidelines. Keep supervisor informed of concerns relating to the position. Serve on various College committees as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education Qualifications Instructor, 9-Month - Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution required.
- Master’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution preferred.
- Must meet minimum SACSCOC criteria and the minimum criteria of other pertinent accrediting, licensing, and credentialing agencies in the area of teaching assignment.
Head Coach – Women’s Fastpitch Softball - Bachelor’s degree required from a regionally accredited institution.
- Master’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution preferred
Minimum Experience Qualifications Instructor, 9-Month - Prior teaching experience at the high-school or community college level preferred.
- Online teaching experience using Blackboard learning management system preferred.
- A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and the ability to collaborate well with others required.
- Must be willing to teach day, evening, and/or weekend classes and clinical labs.
- Must be willing to teach through multiple modes at multiple instruction sites.
- Must be willing to teach classes during the summer semester.
Head Coach – Women’s Fastpitch Softball - Athletic coaching experience required.
- Strong interpersonal communication, planning, and organization skills required.
- Experience working in public relations and with the media preferred.
- Experience in collegiate athletic programs or recreation preferred.
- Knowledge of NJCAA and Title IX regulations and reporting preferred
Physical Requirements
Instructor, 9-Month - Generally works in a traditional climate-controlled office environment and requires the ability to sit for extended periods.
- Some walking, standing, and bending required, with the ability to lift and maneuver items weighing up to 15 pounds.
- Work environment can be stressful at times in dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines.
- In addition to regular office hours, the position sometimes requires overtime and/or evening hours.
Head Coach – Women’s Fastpitch Softball - Generally, works in a traditional climate-controlled office environment.
- Outside athletic events may involve hot and cold weather conditions.
- Work environment can be stressful at times in dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines.
- Travel for recruitment, games, practices, and various events, including evening and weekend work hours.
