Deputy Athletic Director, Compliance and NCAA Governance The Intercollegiate Athletics Department at George Mason University, an NCAA Division I institution and a member of the Atlantic 10 athletic conference, is seeking qualified applicants for a Deputy Athletic Director, Compliance and NCAA Governance position (full-time, 12-month administrative professional). Responsibilities: - Lead the department’s NCAA Compliance and Governance Program;
- Provide guidance, interpret and enforce NCAA and conference rules and regulations for student-athletes, Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and University Staff;
- Organize and maintain a comprehensive program to assess compliance risks and ensure compliance with University, Atlantic 10 Conference and NCAA regulations;
- Educate coaches, staff, student-athletes, prospective student-athletes and athletics interest groups regarding NCAA, Atlantic 10 and institutional rules;
- Create and direct monitoring systems to ensure compliance with NCAA, Atlantic 10 Conference and institutional rules;
- Review and monitor certification of student-athlete eligibility and academic progress;
- Manage all aspects of department’s annual athletically related financial aid budget;
- Serve as a liaison for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics to the:
- University Title IX office
- Office of the Registrar
- Office of Financial Aid
- NCAA** Atlantic 10;
- Prepare and file waivers and petitions to the Atlantic 10 Conference and NCAA;
- Coordinate the process for and assist in the investigation of possible rules violations;
- As part of the Athletic Director’s senior staff collaborate on strategic planning, policy, departmental contracts and risk management;
- Act as Sport Supervisor for assigned sports.
Required Qualifications: - Advanced degree or training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree;
- Substantial legal experience, NCAA Division I compliance related experience on campus, at the NCAA national office or in a conference office setting;
- Excellent working knowledge of NCAA Division I rules;
- Technologically proficient and have prior experience or familiarity with NCAA applications (e.g., LSDBi, RSRO, CAi);
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships (e.g., with coaches, student-athletes, faculty, staff and the community);
- Highly developed problem-solving skills with demonstrated sound judgment evaluating, interpreting and applying policies and procedures with complex compliance issues;
- Strong analytical skills;
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills;
- Ability to balance multiple projects;
- Successful experience working in a collaborative and team oriented environment;
- Ten plus years of relevant professional experience;
- Experience in legal, sports management / administration / performance, higher education administration, collegiate athletic administration and/or Division 1 coaching.
Preferred Qualifications: - Juris Doctor Degree;
- Working knowledge of Banner and ARMs software.
