The Assistant Director of Strength & Conditioning is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of individual and group strength and conditioning training programs for student-athletes participating in the intercollegiate athletics program under the supervision of the Director of Strength & Conditioning.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist the Director of Strength and Conditioning with continuous improvement and growth of the Emory & Henry Strength & Conditioning program through all duties as assigned. Enable student-athletes to perform to their physical potential in their sport through the development and management of both individual and group athletic/sports performance training programs; including strength, flexibility/mobility, speed, power, plyometric and other related training modalities. Evaluate current physical conditioning and utilize knowledge of various sports and associated exercises to develop and tailor strength and conditioning programs for specific student-athlete needs. Must maintain up-to-date records of all programming, testing and assessments. Assist in the maintenance, integrity, and daily upkeep of all equipment within the Gibson Fitness Center. Demonstrate proper performance of exercises and correct mistakes. Assist Director of Strength and Conditioning with the creation and implementation of training programs and management of training sessions. Attend and participate in education/professional development meetings. Assist with fundraising programs/events. Assist with on-campus recruiting activities for prospective student-athletes as directed by supervisor. Assessment & Prevention Attend to daily, weekly, and annual maintenance and cleaning of strength & conditioning facility. Manage training programs and athlete development by monitoring progress and provide ongoing assessments of development. Reduce the likelihood of sports-related injuries or the aggravation of such injuries during practice sessions and scheduled games by being knowledgeable of the injuries sustained in the sport and keeping up to date on the latest research pertaining to injury reduction techniques. Record, analyze, and evaluate testing data to determine appropriate training procedures, student-athlete progress, and efficacy of training programs. Illustrate and teach proper injury prevention methods, directing appropriate pre-training and pre-game (where applicable) preparations and warm ups. Work in coordination with qualified sports medicine personnel or athletic training personnel to develop appropriate return to competition training programs for injured athletes. Meet regularly with the coaching staff of assigned teams to discuss strength and conditioning training plan and any practice, personnel, or competition updates. Compliance

In addition, all guidelines and policies of the Emory & Henry Athletics and Strength & Conditioning departments are to be upheld and honored. Adhere to the best practices and standards set forth by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. This position will be required to work irregular work hours, including but not limited to evenings and weekends. The work environment is typical to that of a small private residential institution of higher education. Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably with an emphasis in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or Physical Education.
Minimum 1 year strength and conditioning coaching experience, preferably in collegiate athletics. Experience as a collegiate athlete preferred.
Must possess current certification as a National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and/or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coach Association (CSCCa) Strength and Conditioning Coach Certification (SCCC), and maintain continuing education requirements.
Current CPR/First Aid certifications required and must be maintained throughout the course of employment in this position.
Continued professional development by attending clinics/conferences and working towards additional certifications under the guidance of the Director of Strength and Performance also preferred.
Ability to coach, teach, train and mentor student-athletes while demonstrating proper knowledge and understanding of the stages of athletic development and performance enhancement.
Working knowledge of various computer systems and programs including Microsoft Office and Teambuildr preferred.
Encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
Must demonstrate professional conduct in all aspects relating to this position as well as serving as a supportive team player within the Emory & Henry Athletics Department.
