Oversees the communications department for athletics and serves as the main point of contact for football. Maintain good working relationships with the campus and public media. Regularly interacts with conference office as well as media personnel at other universities. Specific emphasis in the areas of game management, record-keeping,archival maintenance, publications, photography ,video and information technology.
•Oversees the Athletic Communications office, including activities related to public relations and the production of various publications. Promotes and publicizes every aspect of Intercollegiate Athletics. Maintains operating budget and supply procurement of the Athletics communications office.
•Develops and distributes the sports information to various media outlets including the content and layout of all printed material and website content. Arranges photo sessions for all sports.
•Plans and manages all press conferences and arranges athletics communications coverage for home and away competitions.
•Makes recommendations to the Associate Athletic Director, External Relations of any enhancements/changes to Policies and Procedures of the Athletics Communications office. Assists in establishing and implementing the policies and procedures for the Athletic Department to increase the efficiency of the office and ensure the integrity and public image of the Intercollegiate sports program. Participates in providing the management, administrative direction, coordination, and control of activities of the intercollegiate athletic program.
•Represents the University and Department in a professional manner at publicity athletic meetings and conferences.
•Oversees, organizes and controls press row operations at all home athletic contests including coordinating media site seating, compiling and distributing statistical material, filing post-game reports to media outlets, coordinating installation of transmission facilities, and arranging for statistical crew to be available and coordinating crew payroll.
•Oversees the design, writes and edits game programs for all sports and maintains accurate and current statistical information for the individual sports program. Provides statistical reports to the NCAA and the media, as required.
•Serves as the departmental liaison with media representatives. Coordinates interests for features and stories, interviews with staff members, coaches and student athletes, news conferences and media luncheons, answers requests for promotional material and completes questionnaires and reports.
•Oversees the activities of support staff personnel and conducts performance evaluations of supervised employees and makes recommendations to the Director of Athletics for merit increases, promotions, transfers, and dismissals. Assists in securing individuals to serve as statisticians at all home athletic events.
•Acts as Departmental liaison with media representatives by assisting with data collection and coordination of interests for features and stories.
•Organizes all aspects of the Athletic Hall of Fame when directed.
•Maintains confidentiality for the department. Treats with utmost confidentiality and sensitivity any matter pertaining to academic and personal data of student athletes and any information either directly or indirectly impacting the University and/or Athletic Department.
•Adhere to all State of Florida, University, NCAA, Conference USA, and department rules and policies pertaining to the position of Assistant Athletic Director, Media Relations.Report any known NCAA violations or concerns to the Director of Athletic Compliance and be responsible for the monitoring of any subordinate as it relates to NCAA regulations.
•Responsible for all departmental records and archiving.
•Provides leadership in the implementation of special projects and assists the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics as required in other special projects involving intercollegiate athletics.
•Responsible for overseeing FIUSports.com and serves as the point of contact for FIUSports.com
•Collaborates with the division of External Relations on matters of university-wide relevance including all media interviews, press releases and crisis communications
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area o specialization and four (4) years of experience or Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two (2) years of appropriate experience.
