The UW – Green Bay athletic department is a NCAA, Division I member institution with 16 varsity athletic teams participating as members of the Horizon League. About the Position
The Director of Athletics (AD) reports to the Chancellor and is a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet. The AD will provide strategic vision, leadership, and effective management oversight of the Phoenix Division I athletic program. A major responsibility of the AD will be to integrate the university athletic strategy into the overall University vision by developing and nurturing deep collaborations with University Advancement and the Divisions of Academic Affairs, Business & Finance, and University Inclusivity & Student Affairs.
This position provides administrative direction and strategic oversight to all intercollegiate and recreational sports and core activities, ensuring that all programs fully comply with institutional, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. The AD exercises oversight over all departmental budgetary, financial, operational, and Human Resources-related requests. This position will work to enhance UW – Green Bay’s inclusive Athletics efforts and create an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates those with diverse identities, beliefs, and cultural backgrounds.
The position requires a very high community profile, the ability to work effectively within an athletic conference, a commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and equity, and most importantly a focus on student success.
Duties & Responsibilities
•Provide leadership to an athletic department that shares the University’s commitment to student success, equity and inclusion, and community engagement. •Serve as a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet. Develop constructive and collegial relationships with all members of the Cabinet. •Formulate and implement athletics policies and practices including strategic planning, fundraising, and financial oversight of the overall unit budget. •Serve as the primary athletics liaison to the academic community to ensure alignment with the mission and strategic goals of the University. •Increase public awareness and support for intercollegiate athletic programs and student-athletes. Develop and maintain a high level of community interaction in support of Phoenix Athletics and the University mission and vision. •Develops strong relationships with alumni to create lifelong ties with the Athletic Department and the University •Work with student-athletes, coaches, parents, faculty, and leadership to resolve highly sensitive and difficult issues •Participate in national activities of the NCAA and provide leadership in that organization when appropriate. •Be accountable for all NCAA compliance regulations as well as other federal and state regulations including Title IX. •Ensure that gender equity, diversity, and inclusion in all athletic programs and teams are in compliance with NCAA, conference, and university policies that govern the program. •Develop and implement strategies to increase support for students from underrepresented racial/ethnic/first-generation backgrounds who participate in Athletics at UW-Green Bay. •Working in close collaboration with the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, develop and deliver a vigorous fund-raising program in support of Phoenix Athletics and, where appropriate, other important programs of the University. •Provide leadership to the UW – Green Bay Council of Trustees Athletic Advisory Committee and the Phoenix Fund Board of Directors. •Nurture an effective administrative and coaching team in the athletic department and encourage professional growth, creativity and commitment in Athletic Department employees. •Exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked for Athletics Department coaches and staff. •Provide leadership to the UW – Green Bay Council of Trustees Athletic Advisory Committee and the Phoenix Fund Board of Directors.
Experience in a senior position in Division I, II, or III athletics or professional sports franchise.
Highest ethical and moral standards.
Knowledge of NCAA regulations and Title IX.
Demonstrated fund development experience.
Demonstrated experience in supporting organizational efforts to create a diverse and inclusive community.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent judgment including sensitivity to personal and confidential information.
