Lake Superior State University invites applicants and nominations for the Director of Athletics position.
Reporting directly to the President, the Director of Athletics serves on the Senior Management Team. The Director of Athletics is responsible for the leadership, management and complete oversight of all aspects of the intercollegiate athletic programs at Lake Superior State University, including 12 NCAA Division I and II sports. The portfolio of responsibilities for this position includes management of the following areas: coaches, staff; facility management; recruitment and retention of student athletes; budgeting and expense management; marketing, advertising, promotional events, and public relations; compliance with applicable federal, state, NCAA, CCHA, GLIAC and University policies and procedure; corporate sponsorships and fundraising; Athletic related summer camps; and, GLIAC and CCHA representation, as assigned by the President.

•Ensuring that the University’s intercollegiate program has competitive athletic teams through management of personnel, budgets, facilities and equipment for the athletic programs. •Leading and managing fundraising and sponsorships to enhance the University’s ability to meet established athletic goals. •Ensuring compliance with all NCAA, GLIAC, and CCHA rules. Supervise all details of the program to ensure the academic integrity of the athletic program. •Promoting a positive image of the University and its intercollegiate athletic programs by working cooperatively with the commissioners of the NCAA, GLIAC and CCHA, participating in community and professional organizations, assisting with alumni functions, and representing the University, as spokesperson for intercollegiate athletics, at professional meetings and on professional and community committees. •Promoting the academic success of student athletes. •Providing leadership in the recruitment effort of the University’s intercollegiate athletic programs and ensure compliance with NCAA rules and regulations governing the recruitment of student athletes. •Supervising and evaluating pre-game, game, and post-game responsibilities; ensure a strong in-game experience focusing on student engagement. •Preparing and managing athletic budgets. •Preparing and managing sports schedules, home game management, and procurement of athletic equipment, supplies and training aids, and maintenance of the Athletic Policy Handbook. •Tracking, promoting, and reporting progress on the implementation of corresponding strategic plan goals. •Promoting a culture of inclusion, working effectively within a culture of individuals with diverse backgrounds, styles, abilities, and motivations, and appreciate and leverage the capabilities, insights, and ideas of all individuals. •Working with the University’s Title IX Office to ensure compliance with Title IX regulations.

The Director of Athletics oversees a dedicated staff of approximately 25 employees overseeing 12 NCAA Division I and Division II sports. The Director of Athletics provides leadership in a wide variety of university activities. The best candidates for this position will bring strategic, critical and creative thinking to the financial and operational areas of the university. They will be skilled at diplomacy, collaboration and consultation, will have a proven record of broad-based leadership, and strong management skills. Bachelor's degree; two to five years’ experience in Athletic Administration, experience in college coaching preferred but not required.
