James Madison University, a Division I member of the NCAA and Colonial Athletic Association, is seeking a Director of Equipment Room Operations to work within a highly competitive Athletics program. This is a full-time position with a comprehensive benefits package.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Provide leadership, supervision, performance evaluation, guidance and encouragement to Athletics Equipment Room personnel
Supervise four full-time Assistant Equipment Managers, wage employees, part-time non-teaching employees, and Student and Team Managers for the overall operation of APC (Football), Godwin Hall (Various Programs), Atlantic Union Bank Center (Men’s and Women’s Basketball), and Memorial Hall (Baseball and Softball) Athletic Equipment Rooms
Coordinate all activities and functions of the equipment room/storeroom, such as oversight for purchasing, receiving and shipping, laundry services, equipment room storage and inventory, issuance, repair, and maintenance of equipment, apparel, and machinery
Purchase apparel and equipment for General Issue to 18 Intercollegiate Athletic teams and cheer program. Assist coaches with purchasing decisions and order equipment for athletic programs. Track inventory using ACS Inventory Software and keep data entries up to date.
Manage the issue, cleaning and collection of athletic apparel and equipment for 18 intercollegiate teams and cheer program. Ensure the distribution of practice and game uniforms, apparel, and equipment, and items are cleaned and returned to appropriate coaches and student-athletes.
Maintain laundry facilities with attention to the operation of dryer ventilation systems.
Maintenance of one singular Policy and Procedures Manual that is consistent with State of VA and JMU Policies and compliant with NCAA Rules.
Manage Equipment Room Annual Budget as well as numerous special budgets which pertain to the equipment rooms. Oversee invoicing and billing for student-athletes.
Oversee the distribution of student-athlete awards and report items to the Compliance Office per NCAA compliance regulations.
Scheduling transportation vans, etc. for Olympic teams.
Stay current with all new advances in equipment and apparel, laundry services, and embellishment of products.
Maintain solid relationship with contractual partners. Work with University Procurement Office to ensure consistent application of purchasing policies and expectations.
Prior experience working within an Athletic Equipment Room at the Division 1 level.
Knowledge of athletic equipment and apparel, and demonstrated knowledge of fitting safety equipment.
Prior experience with purchasing and/or budget management, with preference given to purchasing within an athletic equipment room.
Knowledge of inventory control and recordkeeping practices.
