James Madison University, a Division I member of the NCAA and Colonial Athletic Association is seeking (1) Full Time Assistant Sports Dietitian. Reporting directly to the Sports Dietitian, this functional leader will assist in executing the sports nutrition program’s mission to provide JMU student-athletes with cutting-edge nutrition knowledge to optimize fueling for performance and recovery, decrease risk of illness and injury, and promote overall health and wellness. The Assistant Dietitian will be responsible for leading nutrition services for the football program in addition to several other sport programs based on demand and candidate interests. The ideal candidate will be proactive, a team player, and an excellent communicator. Applicants must be willing to work a non-standard work week, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Autonomous management of nutrition services for the JMU football program including individual and team education, hydration protocols, supplement management, team travel, coordination of and presence at team meals, and oversight of football fuel station and budget
Provision of nutrition services to other assigned teams including individual and team education, supplement management, hydration testing, presence at team meals, and advising coaching staff on meal planning for team travel and competition
Collaboration with sport coaches, strength and conditioning coaches, and athletic training staff to optimize student-athlete care
Assist Sports Dietitian with implementation of all-team education utilizing a variety of platforms, including social media initiatives, cooking classes/food demonstrations, grocery store tours, and development of print materials
Assist the Sports Dietitian with mentoring and oversight of student volunteers, paid student workers, and dietetic interns
Other duties as assigned by the Sports Dietitian
Bachelor’s degree in clinical nutrition, dietetics, food and nutrition or a related area
Registered Dietitian (RD) with active status through the Commission on Dietetics Registration
Two or more years of experience in a collegiate, professional, or tactical setting, including graduate assistantships and fellowships
Master’s degree in clinical nutrition, dietetics, food and nutrition or a related area
Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) or willingness obtain within 6 months of hire
