Director of Strategic Communications is responsible for compiling and disseminating information regarding Texas A&M University-Commerce Athletics and serves as a liaison between news media and general public for Texas A&M University-Commerce Athletic personnel.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
Maintains and coordinates athletic department social media outlets to ensure maximum exposure and awareness
Maintains athletics website with up to date information.
Produces, in coordination with the external relations department, athletic department publications and marketing collateral, including, but not limited to: all printed historical and recruiting publications, game programs, team marketing materials (schedule cards, posters, etc.), athletic department marketing materials (billboards, print ads, etc.)
Creates and disseminates newsworthy stories in a timely manner. These include game previews, game recaps, student-athlete interest stories, etc.
Develops and produces web video content for assigned sports and other assignments
Serves as the primary media relations liaison for assigned sports, while promoting and fostering relationships with all media.
Coordinates and supervises appropriate press box/row activities during athletic competitions; including compiling statistical information, communicating with officials and coaches as necessary and overseeing game day sports information staff.
Coordinates and supervises video web streaming operations at assigned events, as well as video board operations at Memorial Stadium events.
Coordinates and provides media relations support to all University Interscholastic League (UIL) events hosted by A&M-Commerce.
Complies and maintains NCAA, Lone Star Conference, University and Texas A&M System rules and regulations.
Reports directly to Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Strategic Communications, while other duties may be assigned as necessary by the Athletics Director.
Assists the SAAD/SC in assigned administrative duties within the Strategic Communications office and the overall Athletics Department
Education: Bachelor’s & a minimum of five (5) years of experience in collegiate sports information, media relations field.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Familiarity with social media outlets, including, but not limited to Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. Knowledge of Adobe products (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.). Strong written communications skills with AP style. Experience with athletics video web stream production, including hardware and software.
Ability to: Multi-task and work well as part of a team.
PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
Three to four (3 to 4) years of collegiate sports information department leadership. Experience with web design and collegiate athletics content management systems. Experience in a non-Power 5 environment. Sports action and portrait photography experience.
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:
Will oversee student workers and gameday workers related to statistics, video streaming, social media, and other sports information duties.
