The director of athletic events and facilities will help foster a distinctive culture in competitive athletics that commissions student-athletes to impact the world for Christ. The director will be responsible to oversee all competitive athletic contests, including both intercollegiate and hosted events, such as national tournaments, high school events, etc. This position will maintain the athletic calendar and oversee indoor and outdoor facility setup/ break down for individual events.
Essential Functions of the Position:
Actively support university and athletic department direction and leadership.
Strive to reflect the Athletic Department core values: Love for God, Love for Others, Excellence in Effort, and Integrity in Conduct. Offer ongoing support to develop a culture that emphasizes these values.
Oversee the operation of all athletic events. The director of events & facilities (or designee) will assume title of event administrator for all CU athletic events.
Hire, supervise, and schedule event managers, site supervisors, staff, student workers, etc. for all athletic events.
Communicate with the indoor and outdoor facility maintenance staff as needed for events.
Oversee concessions for all basketball, volleyball, soccer, cross country, and track meets
Oversee the effective management of the budgets and material resources for events, indoor facilities, concessions, etc. This includes the timely submission of all paperwork (including receipts) related to the budget.
Work with the assistant athletic director for administration regarding promotional activities that will take place during CU athletic events.
Develop and consistently update a policy manual for athletic events
Submit schedules for athletic teams and entire department to athletic director for approval.
Manage the scheduling of athletic facilities
Manage event requests from outside organizations and get final approval from the athletic director, after input from the outdoor field maintenance staff, events staff, sports information, athletic training, and others affected by the decision.
Manage all operations within the athletics equipment room
Oversee all aspects of year-round athletic camps
Perform regular maintenance on athletic equipment needing repaired or replaced
Coordinate with assistant athletic director for administration regarding sponsorship sign needs at all athletic facilities
Oversee the development of a local area visitor’s guide for distribution to institutions scheduled to come to CU.
Assist with the planning of non-intercollegiate events (i.e. receptions).
Maintain a commitment to NCAA, conference, and university rule compliance.
Report any NCAA, conference, and university rule violations to the assistant athletic director of compliance and operations.
Understand that violations of NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
Help devise a plan that will provide consistent updates to athletic director.
All other duties assigned by the athletic director.
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree in a related field preferred)
Experience as a college athletic administrator is preferred.
Experience in both event and facility management
Possess excellent organizational skills
Acute attention to detail
Required Mental/Physical Abilities:
Ability to communicate and interact effectively with coaches, student-athletes, parents, fans and others
Ability to receive detailed information and exchange ideas through oral communication
Have knowledge of and ability to use word processing and e-mail computer programs including Microsoft Excel and Word.
Able to climb stairs and lift objects up to 50 pounds
Ability to drive machinery
Unafraid to work on objects high in the air (scoreboards, signs, lights)
Ability to quickly troubleshoot problem areas
Work is performed in an office environment and sports facilities
Periodic interactions with inclement weather due to the nature of the position
