UCI Athletics Academic and Student Services is currently looking to hire for our Learning Specialist/ Study Table Coordinator. The focus of this position is for students that are registered with the Disability Services Center to have a primary individual that they will work with on a daily basis. The Learning Specialist/ Study Table Coordinator will work with students who are registered with DSC or have shown consistent struggles and high risk per Admissions. Students that are deemed part of the Learning Specialist cohort will remain with them for the length of their time at UCI. The Learning Specialist/Study Table Coordinator will be the primary liaison between cross campus departments such as the Disability Service Center and LARC to help assist with students' academic and learning needs. The LS/ST Coordinator will hire, train, and evaluate the tutors that are provided for use for the Athletes with the Academic & Student Services department and monitor usage. The LS/ST Coordinator will create and oversee the Study Table program that is mandatory for all incoming students in their first quarter and dependent on team and department GPA thereafter. The LS/ST Coordinator will provide notes and updates to necessary parties of any academic concerns or success in which they are noticing with students in which they meet with regularly or during their time overseeing the Study Table Program. In addition to the regular duties set forth the LS/ST Coordinator will be asked to assist in regular Academic & Student Services department programming and planning with is not limited to Student Athlete Development programs such as LEATERSHIP Academy, EATER Ally and Career Development.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Knowledge of the methodologies used to enhance student achievement. Knowledge and experience in analyzing problems and identifying solutions for problem-solving; skills and experience in developing and administering programs. Knowledge of University, college, and major requirements, policies and procedures, including policies on handling student records and confidential documents. Knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements to provide for access, health, confidentiality, and safety; legal and ethical issues governing the delivery of counseling services.
Preferred: Knowledge of the theories and practice of counseling, learning, human and career development. Knowledge of personal growth and development areas, including critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, clarification of values, appropriate career choices, and leadership. Knowledge of trends and issues facing low-income and first-generation college, underrepresented, disadvantaged, physically challenged, and under prepared students in higher education. Familiarity with research methodologies and research designs.
Special Conditions Preferred:
Must be willing to work nights and weekends. • May be asked to travel with sport team on occasion
