The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is accepting applications for the position of Associate Director, Development. Reporting to the Associate Athletic Director, Development, for UCLA Intercollegiate Athletics Development Department, the Associate Director, Development, will be responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift donors and will assess and articulate goals and priorities for increasing support for Athletics. This individual will determine and establish long- and short-term goal objectives for major gifts, planned gifts, endowments, special projects, capital projects, and high-level annual fund gifts in Los Angeles area and the state of California. The Associate Director will work with volunteer committees and organizations to identify potential supporters for Athletics and develop strategies to engage those individuals, corporations, and foundations. This individual will regularly interact with prospects and donors through personal meetings, attendance at special events and UCLA athletic competitions, telephone conversations and correspondence. In addition, the Associate Director, Development will work in conjunction with the Director of Special Events on event management for the UCLA Athletics Development Department.

All applicants should demonstrate the following abilities: Three to five years’ demonstrated progressive experience and responsibility in development, preferably in intercollegiate athletic fundraising and/or prior experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development, including a strong documented record of gifts solicited in the annual and special gifts range; Knowledge of and the ability to comply with PAC-12 Conference and NCAA rules and regulations; Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and implement broad ranging and specific individual identification, cultivation and solicitation strategies; Proven strong team-building skills, creating liaisons with coaches, staff, campus development colleagues, faculty, and administrators to develop effective cultivation and solicitation strategies; Demonstrated working knowledge of the principles and practices of major gift fund raising for intercollegiate athletics or environment of equivalent complexity; Experience in making cold-calls and resilience to withstand rejection; Strong oral communication skills to collect and convey information with accuracy, diplomacy and tact; ability to persuasively express the mission of the university and the fundraising goals of the campus, especially as they relate to UCLA and specifically to intercollegiate athletics; Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to write and edit reports, business correspondence, solicitation materials, appropriate letters of acknowledgement, proposals and other cultivation and solicitation materials; ability to prepare clear and compelling materials for fundraising events, initiatives and programs; Ability to take initiative, work independently and accept responsibility; adept at setting priorities and managing work flow to fulfill objectives and meet goals according to deadlines in a high-paced work environment under minimal supervision; Impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors, alumni, students, administrators and colleagues; Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft suite of applications as well as familiarity with other database, spreadsheet, scheduling and email applications; willingness to learn new programs and applications in a prompt and efficient manner; Ability to travel and work some weekends and evenings as needed; Bachelor’s degree preferred; Demonstrated proficiency in Blackbaud CRM or equivalent development database and the use of databases to generate reports is preferred.
