Reporting to the Associate Athletic Director for Event and Facility Operations, this position will be responsible for:
Developing operational policies and procedures which will guide the support staff in the care of grounds, buildings, structures and related equipment. Establish long range operational goals and objectives. Develop, direct and coordinate all programs related to the construction and maintenance of all turf-grass competition surfaces. Inspect grounds daily to determine needed maintenance and/or repairs. Discuss and coordinate maintenance/repair schedules with appropriate coaching staffs. Manage and supervise assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources; plans and organizes workload and staff assignments and provides necessary supervision, direction and assistance to crews; train, motivate and evaluate assigned staff; review progress and direct changes as needed. Oversee and assist in the mowing and maintenance of all turf-grass competition fields and apron areas adjoining these fields as well as all public access right-of-ways; oversee and assist in the operation and maintenance of field irrigation systems and monitors on a daily basis to best insure their continuing and optimum effectiveness and to recommend/effect up-grades; enhancements and replacements as circumstances warrant. Direct work crews and participate in planting, seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and the pest and weed control of competition surfaces. Instruct and/or otherwise train grounds keeping employees and supervisors in proper turf care methods; demonstrates proper techniques, use of equipment, turf-related insect and disease identification and treatment. Coordinates the work of crews engaged in landscaping and the maintenance of all grounds within the Mizzou Sports Park to include planting, pruning, weeding, mulching, mowing, and snow removal. Provide necessary supervision, direction and assistance to crews at work sites using various insecticides, herbicides and fungicides. Enforce policies, regulations, and safety health standards. Accurately complete all chemical and pesticide application records as required by OSHA, as well as by local, state and federal regulations. Inspect maintenance and improvement services provided by contractors or vendors for compliance with performance standards. A Bachelors' degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Masters degree in turf management and Sports Turf Managers certification preferred.
