The Associate Director of Development works as part of the Duck Athletic Fund to promote university fundraising priorities and image to alumni, parents, and friends of the university. The associate director will be assigned to the Duck Athletic Fund and is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and new prospects. This position will concentrate on gifts in the “leadership annual giving” ($2,500 - $24,999) and non-major gift ($25,000 - $99,999) ranges. Occasional work in the major gift ($100k+) range is possible depending upon donor interest but is not a focus of the position.
This position is field-oriented, requiring frequent travel and direct contact with donors and donor prospects. The associate director works collaboratively with colleagues in the assigned unit, Development, and across the university to identify new prospects and strategically cultivate alumni, parents, and friends. The associate director will be responsible for meeting fundraising goals as they relate to the strategic needs of the university and the assigned unit, priority, or region. Performance, as measured against these goals, will be evaluated annually.
Major Gifts track Reporting directly to the Associate Athletic Director, this position is part of the Duck Athletic Fund development program. The associate director solicits gifts to support the priorities of the Duck Athletic Fund and contributes to donor pipeline strategies and development. The Senior Associate Athletic Director is the lead development officer for the Duck Athletic Fund and reports to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. Travel within Oregon as well as to cities in other states up to 25% of the time is an essential expectation of this position. This position is jointly funded by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and University Advancement.
• Bachelor’s degree. • One year of professional or volunteer experience in development or fundraising OR two years experience in a closely related field such as sales OR two years of experience in Division I college athletics.
• Ability to travel to sites not regularly served by public transportation, by personal or state vehicle, or other means and willingness to travel up to 25% of the time. • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and a strong sense of donor-driven customer service. • Ability to make a persuasive verbal and written case for supporting key programs and projects, effectively matching the interests of prospective donors to specific university needs. • Commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office software suite or equivalent software package; preference for familiarity with development or sales databases. • Ability to interact, communicate, and work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
• Two years of direct fundraising experience at the Division I level. • Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate development events. • Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
