Position Summary: The Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance is responsible for organization and administration of the Athletics Department’s South Atlantic Conference (SAC) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) compliance program. The Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance certifies eligibility and processes financial aid for student-athletes, monitors coaches’ activities relative to rules compliance, and interacts with departmental staff members and coaches to ensure compliance with NCAA rules and regulations. Head of game operations/administration for assigned sports. Co-advisor for the student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC).
Duties and Responsibilities
•Administer, monitor, document and enforce NCAA Division II and South Atlantic Conference rules and regulations for assigned teams, providing ongoing rules education to student-athletes, coaches, and staff. oAcademics oTranscript and progress-toward-degree reviews. oNational Letter of Intent (NLI) program oRecruiting calendars oCountable Athletically Related Activities (CARA) oFinancial Aid oChampionship/Non-championship seasons oTicketing oStudent-athlete compliance forms oStudent-athlete retention oRelease/permission to contact requests. oReview and approve coaches' requests (e.g., official & unofficial visits, tryouts, off-campus recruiting, add/remove from squad, Catawba College grant-in-aid, media releases, payment of health insurance, payment of enrollment deposit, and occasional meals.)
•Interpret or assist with interpretation of NCAA Division II legislation. •Review/certify initial and continuing eligibility of assigned teams (prospective, current and transfer student-athletes) •Submit waivers (e.g., medical, legislative) and secondary violations to South Athletic Conference and NCAA. •Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree required, Masters preferred; Degree in sports administration, student services, recreation, or higher education administration strongly preferred. • Two years of experience in intercollegiate athletics compliance administration required; Division II experience strongly preferred. Founded in 1851 in Newton, NC, Catawba College was started by German
pioneers who had traveled from eastern Pennsylvania to settle in the
valleys of the Haw, Yadkin, and Catawba Rivers. In 1890, Catawba
became a coeducational institution and the first woman graduate
completed her studies in 1893. In 1925, Catawba moved and re-opened
to its current location in Salisbury, NC, which is about 45 minutes from
Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Charlotte, two hours from the
mountains, and four hours from the beaches.
Today, Catawba College has 41 buildings on 276 wooded acres on a
residential campus. Catawba is known for its 189 acre on-campus

Catawba athletic programs currently consist of men and
women participating in its 23 NCAA Division II sports
teams that offer more than 121 full athletic scholarships.
The teams collectively represent more than 500 students
as athletes, coaching assistants, team managers, and
student trainers. Catawba athletes compete in facilities
that rival those of larger institutions, with more playing
time and personal attention.
Approximately 42% of Catawba College’s students are student-athletes. The vibrant athletics
program is embraced by students, faculty, and the entire Catawba community. Student-athletes
are among the most prominent leaders within the student body, and student-athletes regularly
prove their pursuit of success on playing fields does not prevent them from engaging with their
classmates and community in substantial ways. Catawba’s student-athletes are retained at a
higher rate than their peers.
Men’s sports include Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Lacrosse, Soccer,
Swimming, Tennis, and Track & Field. Women’s sports include Basketball, Beach Volleyball,
Cross Country, Golf, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Track & Field, and Volleyball.
The Julius W. Abernethy Physical Education Center, is the
primary home of the Catawba women’s volleyball, has a
seating capacity of 3,500 for basketball. The facility is home
to the Athletic and Physical Education offices and the
Johnson Pool, and is used extensively for intercollegiate
athletics, student activities, civic events, concerts, and
various athletic camps during the summer months. The
Abernethy Center is also the home for men's and women's
basketball, and men’s and women’s swimming teams.
Built to begin competition in the spring of 2020, the
Catawba Beach Volleyball facility includes three state-ofthe-
art sand courts with shower, fencing and lights. In
addition to college competitions that will take place under
the lights, Catawba hosts other programs such as adult and
youth leagues, camps, clinics and Junior tournaments.
Shuford Stadium hosts football and men’s and women’s lacrosse. With a seating capacity of 4,000 and potential
accommodation of up to 5,000 spectators, Shuford Stadium features new field turf and a modern video scoreboard.
Newman Park has been home to the Catawba Indians baseball team since 1926, with the original grandstand erected in
1934. Catawba recently began a renovation and rebuild of this facility.
Frock Fields hosts Catawba’s softball
and soccer complexes, as well as
practice fields for lacrosse, soccer,

Catawba athletes, students, and
