Director of Stewardship/Assistant Director of Athletics Advancement

This is an exciting time to work at William & Mary in the Office of Advancement as we raise $55 million in our Athletics-focused fundraising campaign, All In! The Director of Stewardship/Assistant Director of Athletics Advancement is a critical member of the Athletics Advancement team at William & Mary. They report to the Senior Associate AD for Advancement/Executive Director of Athletics Advancement and are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Tribe Club with an emphasis on stewardship and donor relations, gift acknowledgement, events, and gift and endowment reporting. The Director coordinates and is responsible for marketing all athletics premium seating opportunities, premium donor areas, and donor benefits.
Athletics fundraising at William & Mary is responsible for the leadership & strategy of private philanthropy to benefit athletics programming at William & Mary and is seated in two offices, University Advancement and William & Mary Athletics. Athletics programming is an integral part of the educational experience at William & Mary, delivering a holistic student athlete experience with high standards of performance, providing an environment where champions of uncompromising character, fully engaged with campus and the community, prepare to make a positive impact in a complex and changing world.
The successful Director of Stewardship /Assistant Director of Athletics Advancement will be a proactive and collaborative member of this dynamic team and a champion for diversity and equity as William & Mary continues to build on its success with the All In! campaign. This position is based in Williamsburg and is expected to work in the office on campus, eligible to work remotely up to 2 days per week.
• Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness, including but not limited to programming and staffing. • Familiarity with a donor/alumni database and a thorough understanding of setting up processes and systems. • Strong computer proficiency in a variety of software applications to include MS Office Suite. • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse audience. • Possession of diplomacy and tact when working with individuals on and off campus, and responding to donors. • A wide degree of flexibility, with the ability to adapt to changes and/or upgrades in office procedures and systems. • Experience working directly with donors in fundraising or political campaigns, or experience working directly with clients in finance, business development, sales, customer service, client services, events, membership associations, PR, or marketing.
• Experience in collegiate athletics • Significant experience in non-profit fundraising, donor relations and event planning. • An in-depth understanding of best practices in stewardship and donor relations including analysis, assessment and evaluation. • Working knowledge of CRM or relational database
