This is a full-time, benefits eligible, two-year internship position funded through the NCAA Division III Internship program. Salary will be $23,660 annually over 10 months, with an additional $3,000 for professional development. On-campus housing will be available to the successful candidate.
PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Coordinator for Student-Athlete Success, Inclusion and Leadership will work to administer all aspects of leadership and personal development education and training which will support Ferrum College student-athletes and their quest to achieve the highest levels of academic, athletic and personal growth. This position will collaborate with members of the athletics staff and the Office of Student Life & Engagement to implement student-athlete leadership programing, focusing on four key areas; Character, Performance, Involvement and Self-Care, in addition to serving as a liaison to applicable governing bodies for reports, grants, programs and awards as needed. This position will serve as a collaborative partner and liaison to other offices on the Ferrum College campus, notably the Academic Advising Office and the Office of Student Life & Engagement, which includes Residential Life, Counseling and Health Services, Title IX Compliance and Student Activities. The Coordinator for Student-Athlete Success, Inclusion and Leadership will serve on the Ferrum athletics administrative senior staff, attending all senior staff meetings as well as appropriate Old Dominion Athletic Conference and NCAA meetings. The successful candidate will also serve in an administrative capacity for home varsity athletic events.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Utilize best practices and innovative ideas that will help create, plan and implement programing that revolves around leadership, academic and career success, and diversity, equity and inclusion, that will prepare Ferrum College student athletes to become global citizens. • Promote, market and execute programing to develop our student-athletes and explore additional grants, programs and awards that could enhance the success of this program. • Serve as a liaison with the Academic Affairs and Student Affairs Divisions, notably the Academic Advising Office and the Office of Student Life & Engagement, which includes Residential Life, Counseling and Health Services, Title IX Compliance and Student Activities. • Serve on the logistical committees for marquee athletic department events including, but not limited to, the annual Corrin Classic Golf Outing, the Ferrum College Athletics Hall of Fame ceremony and the athletic department end of year awards banquet. • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Coordinator for Student-Athlete Success, Inclusion and Leadership will oversee any Department of Athletics interns and/or student workers assigned to the department.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS: Bachelor's degree and an interest in and familiarity with diversity, inclusion and leadership development, as well as collaboration with various departments around these issues is required. A master's degree and experience working within a collegiate athletic department is preferred. The candidate must be able to work independently and have the ability to work evenings and weekends from September through May to accomplish the tasks necessary for success in this field.
