Position Description Directs, plans, coordinates and supervises the operations and activities of a specialized unit or small department; develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities. Serves as liaison with university personnel and community at large. Works under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative and independent judgement.
Assess and analyze dietary practices, body composition, and energy balance of athletes in the context of athletic performance and health
Counsel athletes on optimal nutrition for exercise training, competition, recovery from exercise, weight management, hydration, immunity, disordered eating, travel, and supplementation
Outline personalized meal and snack plans to promote achieving short- and long-term goals to support health and athletic performance
Address nutritional challenges to performance, such as food allergies, bone mineral disturbances, gastrointestinal disturbances, injury and illness, and iron-deficiency
Evaluate and manage supplementation formulary within TTU, Big 12 and NCAA rules and policy.
Develop educational resources to support nutritional independence
Maintain documentation of nutrition services provided and evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition strategies towards meeting desired outcomes
Coordinate and oversee team/group education
Educate regarding food selection (grocery store tours, food storage) and food preparation (cooking classes)
Serve as a nutrition resource for coaches, health and wellness staff, and food service personnel
Food Service and Menu Development
Collaborate with teams to develop and manage team meal menus
Coordinate nutrition for team travel (catering, hotels, airlines, competition)
Oversee fueling stations and procurement of goods
Collaboration & execution of athlete-centered menus with Cash Family Sports Nutrition Center
Recruit, lead and manage nutrition staff, interns, and students
Collaborate with nutrition staff members to develop the strategic plan for the program, which includes setting short- and long-term goals, monitoring team performance, and reporting on metrics.
Remain current with the latest performance nutrition scientific research and translate this to policy and practice
Budget & Fiscal Responsibilities
Facilitate procurement process with outside vendors
Remaining fiscally sound in managing sports nutrition budget, and allocation of funds in fueling stations
Maintain dietetic license and continuing education requirements
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in related area required plus five years progressively responsible management experience. Additional education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.
Three years of experience in the nutrition-related area or consultation experience, particularly with sports nutrition in a collegiate or professional organization
Board-certified CSSD, CSCS or CSCCa certifications
