The Director of Compliance and Academic Services coordinates the institution’s effort to comply with all NCAA, USA South Athletic Conference, and Brevard College rules and regulations and develops programs that support student-athletes’ progress toward a baccalaureate degree. Specific areas of responsibility include NCAA rules compliance, eligibility, and financial aid, student-athlete welfare, and academic support programs. The position is a 12-month full-time position and reports to the Director of Athletics.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree Preferred. 1-3 years of experience in compliance at the collegiate level.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Familiarity with NCAA athletics, specifically Division III, ability to clearly communicate with coaches and student-athletes, and work under pressure.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Medium work – exerts from 10-25 lbs of force often. Subject to inside and outside conditions, repetitive motors
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Compliance Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary liaison between the Athletics Department and other constituencies with compliance responsibilities – the Registrar, Admissions, and Financial Aid. Coordinate the processes for certification of eligibility and monitoring financial aid.
Assist and advise the Director of Athletics and the Faculty Athletics Representative on all compliance-related matters.
Design and monitor the College’s compliance systems to determine that each has the necessary checks and balances to prevent potential violations.
Supervise the department’s use of the NCAA Apps Portal software and ensure that all data is current and accurate.
Serve as the primary point of contact with NCAA Membership Services and the USA South Athletic Conference for compliance-related matters. This includes all requests for rules interpretations.
Provide rules education and interpretations for student-athletes, coaches, administrators and boosters. This includes developing a comprehensive rules education program.
Perform compliance audits and make periodic reports on compliance-related matters. Investigate, report, and process all rule infractions.
Oversee distribution, collection, and filing of compliance-related paperwork, including squad lists, eligibility forms, participation lists, playing and practice season reports, hardship petitions, and administrative waivers.
Coordinate the annual NCAA Rules Test.
Oversee the establishment, revision, and maintenance of a complex office filing system to include such items as eligibility data, NCAA compliance documentation, and confidential files.
Academic Services & Student-Athlete Welfare:
Serve as liaison with the faculty on matters related to student-athlete academic performance.
Monitor progress toward degree for all enrolled student-athletes.
Review unofficial transcripts of recruited student-athletes and approve official visits.
Prepare and present regular reports on student-athlete academic progress to the Campus Athletics Committee.
Coordinate the Athletic Departments Individualized Study Plan (ISP) program.
Serve as mentor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
Serves on the Athletic Department Administrative Staff and other College Committees.
Assists with the daily internal operations and strategic planning of the athletic program.
Assist with game-day operations and other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Oversight of work-study students and interns.
