The Associate Athletic Director serves the Department of Athletics and Physical Education in the Division of Academic Affairs. The position reports to the Director of Athletics and supports the mission of the College in its focus on preparing students to become leaders of character and influence in an interdependent global community. This is a twelve (12) month position with benefits that includes morning, evening, and weekend responsibilities. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Associate Athletic Director is a member of the senior leadership team providing strategic direction for the Department of Athletics and Physical Education and effective leadership and management of departmental operations in accordance and compliance with NCAA Division III, North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) and The College of Wooster policies and regulations. Specifically, the Associate Athletic Director oversees student-athlete well-being in collaboration with coaches, athletic administrators, and campus/community partners. The Associate Athletic Director will also have teaching assignment(s) in the Physical Education minor. ESSENTIAL DEPARTMENTAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve on the athletic department senior leadership team responsible for providing strategic leadership, goals for our nearly 2,000 undergraduate students and 600 student-athletes. Research, design, and implement best practices and comprehensive programming to promote student well-being and enhance the student-athlete experience and overall culture of the department, e.g., orientation planning, facilitation of academic advising, and annual leadership/development programming. Develop and maintain mutually supportive and collaborative working relationships with campus partners to accomplish shared priorities and objectives related to admission and retention (i.e., needs related to academics, mental health, identity, career services, crisis response). Supervise Wooster’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and other student-athlete leadership groups. Lead departmental, divisional, and/or College, Conference, and NCAA initiatives and processes., e.g., - oServe on the department’s athletic contest scheduling committee. oCoordinate course conflict notifications. oManage annual student-athlete experience surveys and assessment. oCollect and disseminate data pertaining to student-athlete success rates (i.e., recruiting, retention, GPAs) and required NCAC and NCAA reports. Teach course(s) in the College’s Physical Education curriculum. Serve as point person for the College’s cheerleading team and supervise the cheer coach.
Sport administration and operations may be assigned, contingent on selected candidate’s experiences. EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree strongly preferred.
- Four to ten years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of NCAA Division III athletics at a liberal arts college.
- Prior full-time experience at another NCAA institution or a national governing body preferred.
- Experience as an intercollegiate student-athlete and/or coach preferred.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification is required (and can be completed after hire).

- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Basic Word/Excel and ability to learn and operate recruiting software.
SKILLS: (Language, communication, reading and reasoning)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Must have the ability to interact in a sensitive, courteous, and understanding way with members of a diverse academic community, including students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively and professionally with students, faculty and staff, and the public.
- Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Athletic Administrators are required to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays.
- Travel for athletic contests and coaches meetings, and attendance at convention/caucus is required.
- The ability to obtain College driver certification is desirable.
- Some heavy lifting / moving equipment is required.
- While performing the duties of this job, Athletic Administrators regularly travel in outside weather conditions and are exposed to wet or humid conditions, extreme temperatures, dirt, and dust.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
