Under general supervision of the Assistant Athletics Director (AD), Compliance Services and Intercollegiate Athletics, responsible for assisting with the direction and administration of all aspects of Intercollegiate Athletics' (ICA) NCAA Division I Compliance Program which encompasses 5 different athletic conference. Provide education, monitoring, interpretations, process waivers, and provide full compliance support to assigned intercollegiate teams for NCAA bylaws primarily in the areas of bylaws 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17. Assist with all types of NCAA and conference waivers and assist with investigations and self-reports.
NCAA RULES MONITORING SYSTEMS 40% Monitor & document compliance in areas including ethical conduct, personnel limitations, amateurism, recruiting, awards & benefits, playing & practice seasons, membership requirements & other selected compliance areas.
Approve playing & practice season declarations, countable athletically related activities (CARA), outside competitions, summer leagues & team travel.
Approve sport personnel/coaching staff limitations.
Approve off-campus recruiting requests; develop & distribute dead period reminders.
Monitor & maintain ARMS database to track recruiting including telephone calls, contacts, evaluations, official visits, off-campus recruiting, complimentary admissions, declaration of playing seasons, CARA logs, schedules, staff designations, compliance forms, participation records, student-athletes eligibility forms & student-athlete database management.
Management of NCAA Compliance Assistant & ARMS for roster management.
Monitor & verify amateurism of PSA & current student-athlete participation including outside competition including the monitoring of prize money & actual & necessary expenses; employment & promotional activities.
Review & approve camps & clinics. Monitor non-UCD camps & clinics. Verify fee for lessons. Monitor coach's involvement in local sports clubs.
Monitor receipt of complimentary admissions & outside income.
FINANCIAL AID 25% Manage the National letter of Intent (NLI) requests along with athletic grants requests based on NLI guidelines & maintain comprehensive records.
Monitor, maintain & process aid received by student-athletes, in conjunction with Financial Aid Office, to ensure NCAA, campus & federal guidelines are being met.
Manage & oversee the book loan program to ensure purchases are made within NCAA compliance.
Monitor & review countable aid within both the campus operating system & on NCAA Compliance Assistant (CA).
Work with scholarship office to review community & campus scholarships to identify countable aid. Manage outside scholarship reviews & determine whether the outside scholarship will impact individual or team financial aid limits working directly with the scholarship office within the Financial Aid Office. Ensure NCAA team financial aid limits are not exceeded.
ELIGIBILITY 25% Evaluate freshman transcripts with UC "a-g" requirements & prepare documents for admissions assessment to determine admissibility of prospective student-athlete (PSA).
Direct resource to coaches, parents, & PSA in advising on options when a negative admission decision is given.
Process & obtain final admissions decisions for International PSA.
Responsible for initial eligibility assessment of PSA academic records to determine NCAA eligibility. Identify high school NCAA approved course list errors & work with school officials to resolve issues.
Work directly with the NCAA Eligibility Center staff to ensure documents & information is submitted for all incoming PSA for both academic certification & amateurism certification.
Provide permission to contact, releases & tracers to institutions for those wishing to transfer.
Assist with monitoring continuing eligibility in terms of roster management & participation history.
INTERPRETATIONS, WAIVERS, VIOLATIONS & RULES EDUCATION 10% Provide interpretations on NCAA, Big West, affiliate conferences, & ICA rules & policies to coaches & staff.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NCAA, Big West & University of California policies, bylaws, interpretations, & case precedent.
